Back of the garage

The old mantra of 'it might be useful one day' actually paid off:)
But Bonnie was eyeing me suspiciously

Nice work sir. I too have the bottoms of sills that are starting to go... But not the kit (or time) to resolve. Will have to show you next time we catch up... . Lovely work though.

After a bit of filling and sanding I dug out my new toy:) Works a lot better if you hold the propellant tin in a bucket of hot water.20160507_144103.jpg

I only had the dregs of some paint left and it was very thin so lots of coats needed

The colour looked a bit light so I squirted a shot of gloss black into the mix and carried on.
Not too bad and better than it was:)

Worth the investment? I have touching up on mine to do and wasn't sure if I should but aerosol... But since I have some paint left over from when Martin did the van one of those would guarantee colour match... Thoughts and price?

First of all what kind of paint is it? If it's two pack then don't do it without using the proper breathing apparatus (air fed mask) it's nasty stuff. If it's cellulose then that's fine with sensible precautions, like a well ventilated area to work in.
The air brush was just under £30 from Halfords on line and it comes with a small can of propellant, which doesn't last long. They also do the larger tins of propellant for £6 but you do have to order it on line and have it delivered to the shop. There are cheaper ones on ebay but cant offer any advise on them, this one works fine:)
You will also need to get some thinners but not the stuff Halfords sell - it doesn't get good reviews and it's expensive.

Harvey has always had an issue of the engine cutting out after a log run, when everything is hot, pulling up to a junction. Sometimes he's fine but there's a little hesitation pulling away and I suspect it's the custom inlet manifold getting too hot, it used to be much worse but a heat shield between the exhaust and inlet manifolds has improved things a lot, but it's not quite right. So I've been fiddling:)
I decided a bit of cool air directed over the inlet should help so I had a rummage around and put some bits together.
A Mini fresh air inlet bulkhead fitting.

A computer cooling fan and a bracket I found that just happened to be the perfect size:)

As you may have guessed I never throw anything away that looks remotely useful and I found a piece of plastic housing from the bits left over from Bonnie's induction kit set up, and it fitted the piece of flexy hose and fan mounting holes perfectly

A hole

Bulkhead fitting in place. I had to cut a bit off because of the curve of the engine bay side.

and everything in place

There's a gentle blow when the fan's running but whether it will be enough I'll have to wait and see. Still wondering if it will be better working as an extractor rather than a blower so I might turn the fan round after a test run.

Now Harvey's roof has been irritating me for a while namely the grotty side panels. Over the years they have warped and the outside surface has started to de-laminate, the inside got damp in his long years of storage and the varnish turned very dark - no amount of rubbing down would fix it:( So off to B&Q where the very nice man cut me some pieces of 12mm exterior ply to size

The original isn't quite as dark as this but it made the inside look drab

Not quite as bad as the garage doors:rolleyes:

I was surprised to find the side are only held on with three small hinges

Nice new ones cut out and shaped

Good grief they fit:eek:

the inside looked so much brighter I decided to paint them white on that side

Numerous coats of primer and colour later the weather strip was re-attached

And fitted up. Perfect colour match:rolleyes:

Just need to do something with the roof liner now, the original flock coating is manky and flaking off:( Job for the near future.

Update on the engine bay vent system - it works. No more cutting out at junctions when hot:D

Excellent. DIY at its best. (Although in my case DIY stands for Delegate It Yourself, especially when it involves wood). Aren't computer fans useful. I used one to vent the hot air from the back of Clara's fridge after having problems with the compressor being on too much and draining the battery. Works a treat, fridge compressor has a much easier life now and the battery lasts a lot longer.
