1/4 light Seals

What about setting up an account for this purpose, and then each and every one who really wants these rubbers can deposit 100 pounds by a given date?

If the numbers by the deadline are sufficient, the seals can be ordered. If not, the money can be refunded to each and every one, and the project killed. If this could be done, then we might get this project going - or, if not, at least the issue concluded. As it is now, more and more people just seem to say "I want a pair", but little sign of any commitment - which is needed to pull this one through.

Good/bad idea? :I

FWIW I am still up for a pair and put the £100 upfront if needed.

'Hello Mike, I have spoken with Martin about the seal over a couple of years. What I need first is to see an actual seal. If you can arrange to send me a old seal that is in tact I can see if it compares to some I have already made. If not I need an minimum of 75 orders at approx $140 to make the seals worthwhile to make. IF you can send me a sample seal I can give more acurate details. I am currently modifying some seals I have to suit other less popular vehicles and the end results are very good. My address is'

This is the email I received this morning from Frank Schoen in Australia. I am happy to open an account, I will post the details on here and if you are interested then sign up on the forum.

Does anyone have a reasonable spare that could be sent to Frank?

This is not a business venture so there is no profit being made by myself or anyone else that may help in this.

Like most I just want a tidy set of seals for my van:(.

Rupert horten does'nt work!!

......No problems Many seals are similiar throughout various rootes models so we could get lucky... I dont think the demand will be there for a specific new one piece seal but if I can make one up that would be great. If you locate even just one good seal and send it to me I can tell you if it is possible. I can return the seal undamaged if need be. Regards Frank

Latest back from Australia!

"Hello Martin
thankyou the sample seals arrived today and unfortunately I have nothing anywhere near that seal. It is huge in both length and width. It will require a new set of tooling and would be a brand new seal. Even the tooling will be more than usual due to the size. Unfortunately there is nothing I can even suggest as all the rootes car seals I have done are not wide enough. It is my guess that I could make you a minimum of 100 pairs at a cost of $7000. This would be without much profit and due to this would have to be done over a period of 8 months... That is the best I could offer at the moment. I was told not to make the seal for the series 1-5 hillman minx as the cars were so cheap no one would buy the 150 sets I made. Well they sold out in 10 months and I still get requests for the seal from new owners. I cant make more as the tooling was destroyed by floods....
I need $3000 up front and a further $2000 when you receive the sample and the balance when the seals are finished and ready to be shipped to you. This at least gives you a current idea of where we are at.
Just further info.... I started doing this because I wanted a new seal for my hillman imp.... I made enough to cover costs but it took 5 years.... since then I have modified and learned and improved how things are done so now I have made 7 different sets of 1/4 window seals and 4 other seals.
Regards Frank"

I shall be opening a bank account this week and posting details so far we have quite a few people who want the sets.

Any questions either post them up here or PM me.

cheers Mike.:D

£4750 at today's rate.. for 100 pairs =
£47.50 a pair -BARGAIN
I would suggest that in order to cover currency fluctuations those who want them put in £55 or £60?
Any thoughts?

That price is ex Australia, so shipping and import duties to add. My guess wouls be £75 delivered, but that is only if we can order 100 sets.

I think the idea is, you put in as little, or as much at a time, that you can afford. Just saying how many sets you need. When we have half the money from everyone, we can place the order. Then we have up to 6 months to save the rest.
Or something like that :I
