1/4 light Seals

What I noticed with my 1/4 lights when I took it apart was the spring mechanism at the bottom.. That governs the stiffness?..mine we're almost completely rusted through,think it started life at about 8mm in new money, mine were appx 2mm! if you were to touch it with a spanner it would've just snapped.
 
Has anyone removed the 1/4 lights completely and gone with a full window?
I seem to recall someone did a resto - perhaps they changed the door completely?

The seals on Evangeline's 1/4 lights are very soft, pocked and flabby. I was told they were custom from the US and cost a fortune, but I'm already looking into covered wet season storage cuz those things aren't going to keep out much. :(
