I am still willing to organise this, but we need firm orders. We have to order a minimum batch of 60 pairs, the updated price, including shipping and taxes, is going to be around £100 per pair. I am willing to take some into stock, but at that price, it won't be many.

How do we make it firmer than I NEED THEM, I WANT THEM, I HAVE TO HAVE THEM...? Also do you have any of the quaterlights themselves? mine are made entirely of rust!! The glass is good just need the metal bits. I would combine the order to save a bit on the shipping. Gotta be getting close to sixty pairs by now?

Now with a bundle of joy - and a commer!

I think what Martin is trying to say is that he needs firm orders in the way of cash deposits. Lots of folk say they want things with the best of intentions and when push comes to shove they do not have the funds available to pay. The same thing happened to a chap I know who arranged to have some very rare side trim remanufactured for Bedford CA`s, everyone wanted it.....until it came to the crunch and had to be paid for and the trims never got reproduced! These are brilliant useful parts but are not cheap so before commiting to manufacture Martin is going to need some cold hard cash as a commitment from us.
Sorry to add my comment Martin but you seem too polite to ask for money! :)

This is maybe one of the few occasions that actually having a club would make a difference in funding the creation of tooling like this - however I do also like the "relaxed" feeling of the forum.

My frames are also pretty rusty, but I think those are going to be the easier things to get remade - especially as I have several spare imp quarterlights that seem to use the same profile of metal channel for the outer frame. However, the rubber is only going to be remade one way - and that is by the raising by one means or another of £6,000. Maybe this should become our adopted charity?

we need to know definite numbers and who wants them plus how much is required for deposit :)asap to get this project on the go ,how so the rest of you ?????????

Martin; perhaps to automate the process somewhat you can use http://www.kickstarter.com/ ?

the ONLY way of proceeding is full cash upfront.there is no way anyone could justify outlaying 5 grand plus and then hoping people who say they want them actually take them
if it helps i would take 5 pairs

Unfortunately, I think the chances of getting 60 preorders paid up front in full isn't great. Undoubtedly, some of us are desperate for these seals - but as can probably be seen, there is not really the demand in quantity - otherwise they would have already been made. So, what do we do - wait for enough orders to be paid up front or look to a different way?

The Imp club and traders paid to have quarterlight seals from the same source, and they have taken an awfully long time to sell once the initial desperate owners paid for the ones they needed for their cars. It must also be pointed out that there are far more Imps on the road that there are Commers. However, they have a number of traders who club together to fund these projects. We don't have the same luxury. Usually, the said traders would sit on a stock of seals that will sell over a number of years (this is the traditional way of doing it) and recoup the outlay with a return, eventually. This is the traditional problem for owners of vehicles that are not very common or which have small clubs. If you have an MGB, Volkswagen etc - these issues don't exist as there is always demand for parts. Unfortunately, we are owners of not very common vehicles.

Sounds like we have something to discuss in Wales....
