Spare a Commer Guv?
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?
It's off a humber apparently.
Removed the Overdrive and cleaned it up:
If I am not mistaken a J type?
On taking some advice (cheers Mr Panky) the gearbox isn't a straight swap.
So am looking for a commer gearbox and propshaft so I can play at my leaisure.
The input shaft is longer and so the bell housing is deeper on the Arrows unit. It will bolt straight on but it sits further back and at an angle because the Arrows lump was canted over so the twin carbs on some models would clear the inner wings. Unfortunately the input shafts are not interchangeable as first gear is a different ratio (I found out through bitter experience:I) so it's easier to swap out the output shaft on the Commer box for the overdrive shaft off the Arrows one as the ratios are the same up that end. Fiddly but worth it
So strip the arrows box and fit the out put shaft from the arrows box to the commer box? By out put shaft, is that another name for the main shaft? The one with the 1st 2nd,3rd and reverse gears on it?
Do you leave this intact with the gears on?

No just it's just the tail shaft that goes into the overdrive that needs to be changed, the final drive gear only is attached to it and they are the same ratio on both boxes. You will need to strip the box down to do it though, practice on the Arrows one first.
Had a play with the gearbox today. They come apart quite easily...yes I know thats the easy bit
Do forgive my thickness!! I couldn't find a tailshaft that goes into the overdrive. the main shaft (long one that has gears on it in the pic)goes directly into the Overdrive unit...is this the one????
