Meet Ted

What you have to say about the insurance company, would you still recommend RH or are you thinking of changing to a different company.

A word of warning when dealing with insurance claims and classics, don't expect a breakdown truck to appear and whisk you treasured possession off and return it as new in a couple of days[V] I've just spent the day phoning round looking for garages that will work on old cars for quotes myself - the insurance companies 'recommended' repair centres wont touch anything that even whiffs of old so I had to do the legwork myself. Luckily I was put on to a trustworthy local place by the gaffer at my MOT place - flippin annoying and this is with RH Specialists who deal with thousands of classics, trouble is it's the actual insurance company (Equity Red Star in my case)not the broker you are talking to and they've got about as much idea about classics as I have about knitting[:(!]

They said if I couldn't find a repairer I was happy with they would send an inspector round to assess the damage and 'possibly' recommend someone:I

Because Ted's a classic on a normal policy it seems to confuse things[V] The normal repair centres they use wont touch him so I has to do it the old fashioned way and get the quotes myself. If it was a modern I don't think there would have been any issue, as for their classic policies I don't know as I haven't claimed on one - not a happy bunny though and I will be making my feelings known[:(!]
Got a call from the repairers I found the other day and the repairs have been authorised, now he's looking for parts:I I have pointed him in the right direction where to find genuine Heritage panels;)

It wouldn't have been so bad if she had been an old banger but she looked beautiful. I wonder what the situation would have been with the insurers if you had done some alterations to her, because they just love an excuse for not paying. Mind you knowing the insurance assessors they probably wouldn't have known if she had been modified or not.

I wonder if this firm has any parts for sale, they are one of the biggest morris restorers in England

Tried them:I
Charles Ware are in partnership with the Sri Lankan 'factory' where they produce the panels by hand. They seem to be the main importers and are waiting, like everyone else, for the boat to come in:I
It's worth waiting though as these are the best panels available.
