It would be better to mount it as far forward as you can in the cooler air, wont increase the length of the ducting and it'll keep the bends smooth as well.
hmm, you just gave me an idea. if i cut just below that red line then the air filter pipe should be able to run straight over the rocker cover to the other side (if the bonnet will close over it) and then the k&n should fit snug onto the end with less of a curve. hmm

it definately seems like a strange su conversion. the carb comes up off the manifold and curves in towards the rocker cover. i wonder what the carb came off

I was toying with a Stromberg conversion ages ago and bought an adapter from Speedyspares. It was meant for an SU and unfortunately it held the carb too high and at the wrong angle for the Stromby - it could be what you have got.
yh, sounds about right m8, but it soes seem to do the job, sounds nice and pulls well. hopefully i can get it done tomorrow. my 2 year old has decided that dolly is HIS lol he comes out and sits on the chair "driving" why i work[^], today he found the button for the little air horn and pushed it. jumped right off the chair then laughed his head off lol. when i took him in to his mum he kept screaming at the door til i let him come back out[:0]. thought i might attach sand paper to his shoes and have him run round in the back

Had another look at my air filter today. its huge so fitting it in the drivers side was very tight. in the end i moved the coil onto the inner wing to make just enough space. and made up a mount to attach it to the coil fixing. then whipped of the bend and had a little chop
afterwards i filed it to shape a bit and re-fitted it. ended up sitting just right, slipped in a bit of pipe and hey presto
once repaired the bonnet should just fit with a small gap. i think it looks spot on only 1 slight curve in the pipe and the pipe is only 6 inches long well done for the idea's boys

If it's connected up and working then you won't need anything else[8D] Have you had the dizzy cap off?
i did briefly but i didnt really pay much attention as i was intending on putting electronic ignition, cap leads and plugs all at once just whipped off the rotor arm to clean it up a bit and cleaned the terminals in the cap

hmm, not sure on that one m8, i will look why im out there tomorrow, fingers crossed eh. as it happens because of where i put the filter the rad fan kicks alot of cold air its way. cant see it in the pic but i have also run a cold air feed from in front of the rad to a couple of inches in front of the filter. but i will need to remove the filter to check my ignition. will look at it and take a picture lol stopped that slight squeek from the engine and found a funny earth problem in my rear indicator today as well
