Splendid[8D] this is proving to be the benchmark upgrade for a good daily driver[^]
Happy Days.......
Lets hope so
Ive got a little bit further today. Im using the escort tdi flywheel with a mondeo/escort 240mm clutch plate, there are a few clutch pressure plates that are looking positive one from a 92 transit 2.5diesel, another one (ive got to dig out as i know ive got one) from a 3litre essex v6 and one from the sierra cosworth of which I may be able to use the friction plate as well and there good for some big power so should make a good tow vehicle when its done. I need to offer them up to the flywheel and check the bolt/pin fitment. As these clutch covers are quite deep for rear wheel drive aplication, they should make up the space I need to make contact with the realese bearing, and give me enough throw for it to engage. It also means I can use a lighter flywheel and 240mm clutch instead of 215mm clutch fitted to the big old heavy flywheel on a p100. Should help the turbo to spool up and boost quicker from a standing start, with less weight on the back of the crank.

Forgot to say the starter motor from a 2.5td scorpio is looking like the one im going to use as its a 2.2kw and the original one fitted to the mondeo/escort is 1.8kw so it should give it a bit of extra kick when starting toJust hope it fits round the sump area and exhaust down pipe as its all getting a bit full up under the lid now
There both 10tooth starters to, so will all mesh up with the fly wheel. Its taking so long to do the homework to find out what fits what but im getting there slowly now

Keep at it mate! Can't wait to see the finished result
Me either Alan, just got to keep pluging away at it
Not been a good day today, ive tried all the clutch covers on my flywheel that I thought may fit. They are all to large in diameter so hang over the side of the flywheel and dont line up with the holes/pegs.
So back to the drawing board[V]
My next idea is use the complete 240mm clutch kit from the mondeo/escort. As im now using the scorpio box with the concentric slave cylinder im going to make an alloy spacer to bring it closer to the clutch cover to make the gap up from using a taller clutch cover.

I purchased another slave cylinder before I brought the new box, bolted to that slave cylinder was another mounting bracket that surposedly came from a 2.5td scorpio but it cant be as the one on the gearbox was alot shorter as you can see on the pics. Its got a part number on and is a ford part so i will find out what its off. All I need to do now is make an ally shim to give it a little bit more throw and thats the box and clutch sorted

Just keep a note of everything, then you can produce kits for people to convert their Commers!

If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?
Most the parts are off the shelf ford items from various different models, but alot of the parts to get it to fit are made up and fabricated. Ive made cardboard templates of most the bracketry/spacers etc so we will see what happens when I know it all works
When I started doing the conversion I wanted "to fit an engine to the van" and not "a van to the engine" as you would say! I wanted it to be minimal if any cutting to the van bodywork, and all to be bolt on and off able from one van to another using mainly manufactures stuff, which is the reason I went for Ford as I said before most there stuff is interchangeable. Lets just hope it all works out after ive spent so much time on it

buy some 'speed' and power shakes then you wont need to eat and sleep ...then 'accidently' pull your back at work! ........sorted the van will on the road in no time LOL

That's the way to do it, you just need to supply the bespoke bits plus a list of the standard parts as a 'kit'.
