A commer with boost

OOh me!

Commer/Dodge : Rover V8
50BHP : 158BHP
82LBF ft max torque : 210LBF ft max torque
23 MPG : don't care :)

Actually it scares me more seeing it written down but it does sound nice (even if small children cry...)

Need to get Harvey on a rolling road for all the figures but 32mpg on a motorway run ain't bad:)

Ford have just started using this engine again in the new mondeo and put a common rail diesel set up on it the torque is fantastic they are pushing 236 lb.ft out of it @ 1800 rpm or so the data says. Would be a fantastic upgrade if I can get this to fit as the block and cylinder head are the same. But im not trying to run before i can walk as they say!!lol The engines are a fortune at the min to as there brand new[:0]

Started making the mounts up not easy at all. Well the n/s mount was easy but the o/s is mega hard as the oil pump is right where the engine mount needs to be. The plasma cutter has been on overtime lol

Its a good job ive got pleanty of engines and parts around to mock things up;)

This is in its early stages at the moment and needs lots of work to strengthen it up.

Awesome stuff Jon! I am tempted to start keeping my eyes peeled for some ford engines now :) seem to be more plentiful than the 1.7td izuzu lump i wanted :( Once you have got the mounting sorted, would you mind sharing with us the dimensions of the new mounts? Are you trying to make them fit into standard commer mountings, or welding on new ones completely?

The reason its taking me so long is I want it to fit on the commer engine mount towers but the o/s is proving very difficult. It would be alot easier to weld new mounts on the chassis rails but I want it to be reversible and dont want to cut the shell around. Ive made templates for everthing ive done so far see how it goes;)

Good man Jon, i would ideally want all my modifications to be reversible easily too. With my brake conversion i should not have to do anymore than a little skim off the centre of the hub, which would not affect hub brakes being refitted. You are very lucky to have a commer engine bay to play with!

You can buy this commer engine bay if you want when im done;)

I would rather just steal your mount dimensions and stuff and chuck you some beers in exchange. The engine bay of my commer is the only bit that isnt rusty...

As long as its enough for me to have a bath in as they have took some serious man hours:D
There are stacks of things you have to change on the engine for it to fit the bay first.Even with the mounts its not just a straight bolt in job;)

Yeah i realise that, the manifolds need to be remade to situate the turbo in a more suitable place, its all ery time consuming! For the time being i am getting my standard engine cleaned up and running nicely so i can actually use the camper, and start collecting parts ready for when i get time and enthusiasm to strip it all out again!

Nice one;) I will do a list of all the swaps and changes from each engine with dimensions when im done. You even have to run a different crank seal mount plate on the back, for the sump to fit;)

Crikey, some serious time must have been spent! Once i have sorted the geometries of the disc mods, i will give out measurements for others to do the same thing if they so wish! Looks like you may need the extra power to cope with double the poke! We need more threads on this forum on this kind of stuff, the VW boys have a billion different things to do that are off the shelf, we need to catch up! A how to guide section should be made :)

Cutting the chassis will also leave you exposed to VOSA rules on IVA and you may lose the reg'n number and any tax-free status.

Spare a Commer Guv?
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Bit more progress on the conversion today many many man hours later Ive come up with this for the other mount:

Then had a trial fit up in the bay again but had to do some modifications to the front section as ver close to the crossmember
