1972 Commer PB

Hopefully back on it very soon. Hoping to use the christmas break to get more done.
I will be gutted if the van isnt ready for early spring :-(

Talk about progress, jeez....

Still dreaming of a voyage to Norway for this year!! heh

I finally got around to cutting the paint with wet and dry 600 grit and I will pick up some meguiars cutting compound tomorrow to see what the finish is like. For anyone not aware, I am painting the van with rollers and using Rustoleum Combi Colour.

Should have some more time this week to get on with things as I have spent the last week or so doing other things rather than important commer jobs.

Our local fella estimated £3,500 for a respray, so we'll be rollering paint on for a few hundred quid instead when the time comes.

This looks fab, Saul !
Anyone else tried rollering? I saw that a fella had painted his morris minor with coach paint ( http://www.craftmasterpaints.co.uk/) , and he hadn't flatted it back at all yet. It looked ace in the photos.

I am pleased with the result so far. I don't have the facilities or funds to spray a finish so am opting for the rolling option.
the last coat of paint I put on was a 4:1 ratio and I mixed too much for the door but it just kept rolling on no matter how much I put on. it has given me a great layer for wet sanding and polishing.

Time constraints mean I will probably tart the whole van up with a basic roller coat and then tidy it up while the van is a legal rolling restoration.

Using rustoleum combo colour is a good option if you have time and lack of funds and the more time / TLC you spend on it, the better the finish you will achieve.

Tried to get a comparison shot tonight of the flatted down door and the cut corner - used 600 grit wet sandpaper but will go to 1200 for the finish in future and then cut with Meguiars Ultimate Compound.

If anyone is wondering, the colour has been mixed by Rawlins paints (after reading some great reviews about the company / paint match they produce) and the colour is VW L31 Dove Blue. I have seen it painted on a factory painted van and it is identical.

Far from perfect but a bit of protection and while the kids are young if they scrape it with their bikes I can just touch it up without the !IMG_2001.JPG IMG_1617.JPG

Back wheel cleaned ( the one above with bad caps)

I found a round wire brush for the grinder, so the knotted wire wheel did most and the brush finished the job.

EBay seat mostly fitted. Need some brackets and to drill out the broken bolt and retap.
Great front seats, is this a home made mod or is this from an earlier van. Also does it fold and where can I buy one

These are the original seats for this van. It is a Wanderer which has had an Autosleeper roof transplant. Yes, it folds down to make a (small) double bed.

Thanks I am trying to change my van from the usual double bed across layout to two singles long ways, but to do that I have to use the cab area. I think it's possible just have to work it all out

So the sun came out and I thought....

A load of crap covered up, imperfect bodywork, unfinished filler, but it will be better off on the road and a work in progress rather than sitting on a drive waiting to be perfect.
Hopefully you weather will continue and I can finish the van paint this week.
