1972 Commer PB

So the sun came out and I thought....

A load of crap covered up, imperfect bodywork, unfinished filler, but it will be better off on the road and a work in progress rather than sitting on a drive waiting to be perfect.
Hopefully you weather will continue and I can finish the van paint this week.

You're absolutely right of course.:)

Thanks guys.
Long weekend so hopefully get a full day on the van this weekend after I fit some windows and a patio door at my parents.

other side to do.... might be back together by sunday....

Look worse in the flesh, have just been firing the paint on with a brush to quickly get it roadworthy.
Going to pick up some high grade wet and dry orbital discs to target areas of the van to tidy up over time.

Last of the exterior painting finished this morning. Some really ropey bits but the plan is to get some fine discs for my orbital and target areas when I have time.
Electrics to sort for lights etc and reconnect the washer lines.
Couple of mechanical bits and an exhaust bracket and I may book an mot.. Fingers crossed

I'm always convinced I've forgotten something when booking an MOT after a re-build but it usually works out fine:)

I am going to have a thorough look over the van prior to mot to try and limit the amount of visits!

Been playing with Electrics today.
Reconnected the head lamps and found they no longer worked (they were playing up before I removed them). No dimmed or main beam. I checked the voltage to the headlight snap connectors and there wasn't a voltage. Checked the dash switch and that was fine so checked continuity across wires and all good. Removed the foot switch and checked with testers and found it didn't work at all.
Plenty of wd40, clicking and testing for over half an hour and I eventually got it to work and work reliably :)

Just trying to work out why the indicators are not working correctly. I have voltage at the snap connector where the indicator plugs in, continuity across the wire but no voltage to the lamp.
Left indicator works but without the dash light flashing and the right indicator doesnt work but dash light flashes.
I will check the snap connectors more thoroughly tomorrow and also try and sort some feeds for a radio.

Probably a bad earth at the lamp fitting, all that new paint, although it looks great, doesn't help continuity;)

Nearly there, I can feel the mot phonecall happening soon :)

Located the bad earth and found the light fitting was dodgy, so remedied that and now have indicators all round. Rear right I dictator is a bit weak though?!?!

Windscreen washer pipes to reconnect and passenger door to touch up and I think it is done.

I have to top up clutch fluid now and again as there is a leak from the cylinder under the cab floor (master cylinder?) I am assuming the option would be to replace for a new unit?

Found some mirrors that are exactly what I was looking for so will take a pic if they fit when they arrive.

Rock and roll bed to order next. Found a great one which has seat belt mounting points built in so as long as I get it bolted and plated down correctly it should be heading to a campsite very soon :)

It could be the silvering (is there any?) on the backing plate faded causing the weak indicator or simple dirt on the inside of the lens, it's surprising how much muck accumulates in there.
Result with the bed:cool:

I think you are right panky, I will see if I can improve it tomorrow. Lens in clean so it isn't dirt. Looking at how bright the other side is I would say it is an earth connection issue.

Hi doug, yes it's combicolour, mixed 4:1 and made to a ral code of my choice.

Wipers fitted, letters, washer tested... Confident to book its test tomorrow.

Mirrors are these https://www.holden.co.uk/displaypro...agName=Door+Mirrors&pCode=090.156#prettyPhoto about 3mm difference in mounting holes but I can run a drill through them gently.

Bed is the t4 type from rusty Lee http://www.vwrustylee.com/vw-t4-t5-beds/ not far from me to collect.

Are you going to have the rock n roll back to back with the cab seats or have it hard up to one side of the van so you can get passed it?

Current thought is to have a bench seat across the back of the cab seat (that the back removes from and the cab bed overlaps when out) and then have the rock n roll facing forwards a table width / unfolded width away. This would create a longer bed as I am quite tall and we are not going to overdo it as far as cupboards go. Going to rely on a camping stove and awning tent for most things
