Hoorah, it's finally in
Just some minor rubber adjustment and a big mastic clean up to complete !
A couple of hairy moments but otherwise mostly sticky ones !!
Fairly straightforward using the classic 'rope method' - I used plastic coated steel core washing line which was perfect. Definitely a two person job for the novice, thanks to good mate who was up for the challenge.
A Pilkington 'Triplex' laminated was a lucky gem of a find for £30 from a local windscreen fitter, who was clearing out years of his dead stock. It's original sticker was mildly reassuring at the brief point when it did look like the screen wasn't quite going to fit ! But after some deft jiggling of the glass everything came good.
I used Arbomast Autograde mastic as it's designed for this purpose. I know others have recommended Tiger Seal but its product sheet actually states not to use it for windscreen sealant.
After several attempts, including a hairdryer to warm the seal I've still no success in getting the top two corners to seat correctly. It's my first ever windscreen fitting, so I'm a complete novice - can anybody suggest how to resolve this issue ?
I had a similar problem with one corner, I clamped down the corner for a couple of days with a piece of wood wedged in until the sealant went off enough to hold it in place, Wasn't perfect and needed to add a bit more sealant to fill the gap.
Yep, a very lucky find, the best I've seen personally and I've a matching middle seat too The frames and foams are all very good too, with only a couple of minor nicks which all should glue fine.
I thought the original badge was long lost but it turned up today whilst looking for something else ...
... but I then had some even better luck when asking the TorCars FB group about the font so I could have another sticker made up to fit to my NOS badge surround - their only remaining sticker, now on its way to me
