Theres life in the old dog yet

Oh no that really sucks Lee. It's just one thing after another. Really really hope this is the last of the problems with the Dog. Just think how great the van will be when all these issues are sorted and when you go on the first trip they will all be forgotten :)
I am guessing when you say pump you are talking about an injector pump? I know little about diesels and nothing about the Perkins lump. Any chance other vehicles used the same one that may be a bit more common?
Fingers crossed it is easier (cheaper) than expected to sort.

I just need a good rootes...

All the attention this van is going to get when it arrives all shiny and new at its first meet, you will be so proud and every hic up along the way will seem like a distant memory...
Good luck Lee, hope you get it sorted soon :)

poxy diesels:I:D

Lee are you connected with the royal navy at all? I am an ex me tiff and if you know anyone at sultan they have an excellent diesel workshop there! just a thought.

Another question was the engine smoking at all and if so what colour?;)

Best of luck with everything!

yes I am an ex sultan tiff, great for perkins spares, but my contact has just left the mob (diesels adqual instructor)

Martin Maltas's pump is true diesel porn,

I am grateful to both him & woolfy for offering up a pump - however I have gone ahead with the refurb

Im rapidly running out of other things that can go wrong!

I was Fisgard Squadron - Sherval 993,
they have done away with tiff's now - all engineers / wafu's / war fairies go in as technicians, so no more stokers either

so tiff or stoker is now an engineering technician, they only put you forward to do an equivalent of the tiffs course after something like 12yrs, they had a problem with everyone getting their HND / Foundation degree then buggering off after the 8 year minimum.

so a POMEA is now a POET and a CPOMEA is a CPOET, the old charge chief MEA changed to WO2MEA then to a WO2ET

there is also some crossover between the branches, for example an ET who works with hydraulics will now look after the ME stuff like steering gear and stabilisers - but also the Hydraulics on the 4.5 gun and some of the Wafu crap

and meanwhile the profusion of splits on board means that the lads are too busy chasing rats wrens when they should be working

it would break your heart if you walked round Pompey Dockyard, Wrens in comfortable cardigans with branch badges on pushing prams to the creche so they can go and sit at all the cushy desk jobs that used to be saved as a treat for hard working jack coming back from a nine monther - now he just gets told, sorry shag you've pulled a back to back.

oh dear this is turning into a rant...

I wont even mention the 120 wrens employed from the commonwealth, their visa's are only active while they are in the Navy - if they leave they go home. Of the 120, within 3 years 112 had babies in the UK and left the mob - uk baby = stay in blighty

there is a silver lining though

seeing as the RN tried to set fire to me in an engine room by making us run with plant in a dangerous condition the second sealord did kindly buy me a 4 bedroom farmhouse in Lincolnshire by way of apology (after 4 years of legal wrangling)

Nice to hear that someone got something out of it! After two CINC fleet commendations four medals and being 'lent' or was that sent to the Army in 2003 when I left they managed to get my rank wrong on my leaving certificate! Had a lot of fun though!

Anyway back to commers!

Not sure if two heads are better than one but if you need to bat any ideas about your Perkins off another then PM me your number! :D

its fitted, and bled, I went to start up and found the battery was flat - I had left the key in on position one which meant the brakelights had been on (because of the handbrake)
