I have just made one of these today. Simple enough with an angle grinder and a drill. Extended mine so it goes all the way to the rad.

Nick - it would be interesting to hear what difference it makes, im also hoping it will lead to colder air going through the air intake - improving power.

how did you fix yours on, are the holes in the framework tapped?

With the old one on..when we left traffic and cruised a long I had to turn the electric fan right down to get the temp up to the middle. The new one is larger. Will post a pic up today

Nipped into work this morning and made this from 3mm aluminium sheet....

I have added a small 45 degree piece at the back which lines up perfectly with the bottom of the radiator - as soon as this blimmin rain stops im off out to fit it, I have offered it up and it should go in quite easily. The cutout at the left is to accommodate the steering pivot

Lol....freaky mine is very very similar, but has sides to it, but does have the 45 degree back piece. Scavenged some polished stainless from work and added a lip made from rubber fuel line to prevent decapitating small children

have just been for a drive - approx 15 miles.

still getting hot, but not as bad. The Kenlowe kicks in at the red line on the temp gauge. Cruising at nearly 40 the temp sits just in the red. If I really gun it - say 40! it sits slightly closer to half way into the red. When i slow down to 30 it rises slightly for a minute and then drops back to somewhere between just in the red and halfway into the red. The gauge is 50 - 120 degrees but no idea how accurate.

I did find that towards the end of the drive the temp was sat slightly lower - probably knocking the last few spots of air out of the system.

Another side issue, at the end of my drive the idle speed had increased noticeably - something to fettle tomorrow i think

I had a Sunbeam Stiletto a while back which used to run in the red no matter what I did to rectify it, turned out the current voltage stabiliser on the back of the dash was faulty and when a new one was fitted the temp guage never rose much above the blue!
Im not sure if the commer has a voltage stabiliser fitted, although it should have, but must be worth checking as I doubt very much if your van is getting that hot with all you have done to it.

Bloody Commer`s!

Try by-passing the Kenlow fan auto switch, and keep the fan running all the time and see if he runs cool then at lest you will know if is the engine or just the wrong setting on the auto switch

Bernie is only saying to do it as a temp measure to make sure its an air flow problem and that its not something else that you have dropped a clanger with. ;)

Your van must ow you the kings ransome now:D;) Just been reading through the thread;)

have had a measure up today - theres approx 10mm missing from each impeller blade - thats 1/3 of each impeller blade and theres aroun 1-1.5mm off the height of each impeller blade - so it was probably churning the water rather than pumping it
