seeing as on saturday it still wasnt back together - I followed the Martin Maltas method of setting the tappets, much easier than the Perkins manual - then put a freshly charged battery on - took a bit of cranking to get it going - it stalled a couple of times, then kicked into life, let it idle for 45 mins, a few fuel leaks and an exhaust leak but nothing that cant be nipped up

phew, what a relief - now to put the rad on properly with proper coolant, connect the throttle pedal, put the steering back together, kenlowe back on, back fill the tunnel i dug and go for a spin!

How refreshing

no - too busy saturday, V-dubconvert was round sat night, so too hung over sunday. The steering is back together, just need to lock the castle nuts before I chance it - saw a van at the roundabout near work last week thats ball joints had somehow popped out, leaving its front wheels pointing 10 to 2

Are those greasy hand prints all over the driver's door?

I am not a person, I am a number, 395 actually......Be seeing you!
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

right - have been for a drive.

2 miles and it was in the red on the temperature again - I am starting to bloody despair. Picturing back to having to drive the Dog back from coventry at 35mph to avoid overheating I thought theres no way Im driving to yorkshire like this

I let the engine cool and drove back. with the engine cover open it soon became obvious that there is absolutely no bloody air flow to the radiator whatsover - so I started to delve a little deeper, trying to work out the air flow.

I looked at the air intake grill. The air enters the grill, hits a 45 degree bulkhead then heads off down - completely missing the radiator and engine.

I thought this cant be right, so I had a look at Johns next door.

I think the pictures paint a thousand words!

heres johns.....

johns.jpg

as you can see, Johns has a duct that directs the air flow to the radiator

now look at the Dog.

so on mine theres nothing to steer any air towards the radiator / engine = no cooling when driving

so, if I can make one before friday and test it before friday I should still be on for the weekend

If not Im scuppered.

to be honest Im a little disappointed this is missing, but life is too short to get drawn into any long winded debates

Some vans also have another plate below the rad. It is at 45 deg and directs the air up to the rad and not under the sump;)
I will have a rough one of the main scoop, kicking around. I could get it to you Tues, if that helps
