The New adventures of Smurf !

I'VE CURED THE OIL LEAK !!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D.

Just gotta wack on the overdrive and she;ll be ready for the big trip to North Wales in 2 weeks time.

We also took her to Wareham at the weekend, my dad got chatting to a man who had a rusty auto sleeper on his drive, he said he was going to put it on hear. If I had the money it would be on my drive now.

Going to put it through the MOT this week, Colin where did you get it done last time ?

Cheers,

Will

Hi Will....how did you fix the leak in the end?
The address for the last MOT is on the MOT certificate? but Stanfield Motors in Bournemouth, the guy knows the van is sympathetic to classics:D

We put the rear axle on stands and ran the engine in gear, only then it became apparent that the leak was coming from the join between the O/D and the gear box, 4 nuts later and with oil everywhere it was off.

It turns out there was no gasket between the two, I've either got to make one or put some instant gasket in there. But thats the main cause of the leak.

Thanks Colin I will get one booked up.:D

I am really enjoying owning Smurf, I think I may just let my parents use smurf until I can afford the insurance. My other plan is to win the lottery ;)

will, at the end of the day, commers are becoming harder to get hold of and you are either going to get a wreck or one that has been restored and will cost you a fortune to buy...you have a good solid van there (not without some work needed of course) but you have plenty of time and I think letting your parents use it in the mean time is a sensible idea (better that its used than stood idle:D

I believe one of the bolts securing the OD unit to the box is sheared off which is why I never tackled it...plenty of help on the froums here, I know Panky and rupert have both done this and posted plenty of pics along the way...good luck with it:D

Thats what I worked out. I'm thinking that I'll keep her.

Your right in thinking one of the bolts was sheared, it was a bit of a bugger. My dad luckily has a special tool ( He sheared a bolt off in the block of his Morris ) which enabled us to get it out after some nerve racking drilling.

News on the street is that your getting another Commer Colin, is this true ? :D

i believe its quite tricky to take the O/drive off, well not so much seperating it, but aligning it to put it back together...putting a new gasket in is obviously the proper job but if you can get away with instant gasket, then why not!:D

Well it was a big F for fail.

I need to adjust the Carb as it failed on emmisions.

The front brakes are also pulling to one side

It doesn't seem to major to fix thankfully, although I could do with some advice on adjusting the carb, what does what ?

Is it the hand brake Will? sometimes just a drive round the block with some harsh braking will re-balance them...don't forget the golden rule of not leaving the handbrake on for long periods...I always leave the handbrake off and chock the wheels if I'm not using it for a while...:D....did you go to Stanfields?
