Won't take long to rub it down and respray it white if you change your mind.

Hi Will,

Congratulationss on the purchase.
My first vehicle was a '63 Austin A40 but thats another story.
Our front bumper arrived in black:

Stripping back to metal revealed white as original.
Sprayed with this hoping for a near chrome finish:

Must have been hoodwinked;):I[B)]:D

I've used that paint with the chrome lid and ended up with a plain silver finish. I complained to the company and said it was misleading. They said that you cannot reproduce chrome with paint, so I argued that they shouldn't use chrome on the lid, or at very least should use the same paint on the lid as is in the can. I heard no more! [:(!]

As some of you may know Smurf has some rust in her peak, now short term I will bodge this up to last a couple more years. To do it properly the roof would need removing, getting it off in one piece and fitting it would be very hard so I have been considering an alternative option:

there is actually only a small section of roof required which I could fabricate my self or I could weld in the roof of a donor Commer with a pop top.

How hard could it be ?

We did Alex Lambe,s Wanderer, converted it to Autosleeper roof. Its not that difficult ;)

to be honest I rather Like Smurfs Hi top and I don't really want to change it for the foreseeable future, I guess it was just a case of having too much time on my hands !!

The hi top is also higher than most pop-tops and gives you a much better feeling of space; so not worth the change imho!

I would agree with that admin.

Smurfs been fitted with a new tire and shall be getting another one shortly, I have also found out the spare is a 13inch tire but has the right PCD what could it be off ?

LOL! and maybe a little deflated:D

The spare I had never even looked at Will, it came with the van..knowing Steve it probably came off a rapier or similar Rootes vehicle...

''COMMER'EnSayThat''

Google Chrome spellchecker has failed me [V].

Colin its lucky you never had a puncture, a new spare has been ordered up from Commer van spares along with some parts to replace the brake hoses.

They all look a bit rough so we are replacing them.

With a bit of luck We'll be taking her to blue anchor in a couple of weeks, I must sound proof the engine cover before or I fear my eardrums may not make it.

It's amazing what a row the cooling fan makes, take my advice and ditch it in favour of an electric one. Some carpet on the wheel arches and engine cover will help as well.
If I remember correctly Smurf was sans any kind of insulation under the engine cover, one of those silvery hot water tank jackets from B&Q will do the trick:)

'Orrible is the word[}:)]
Kenlowe is the obvious one but Commerjules of Ratsport also does a very good kit. Just to be different I bought a Ford Escort diesel fan off ebay for less than a tenner and made up some brackets to fit it behind the radiator(after moving it forward about 4 inches) and wired it in through the cheapest switch I could find - about £3 off ebay again. I did make my own thermostat housing with a place for the switch though:I Alternatively you could fit a T piece in the top hose to take a temperature switch.
