The diff is still in peaces :-( need to find a supplier for the bearings and some money to pay for them lol.
In the mean time of doing that, I came across a few Commer spares. I didn't really need any of it but thought I best have it to save it from being scrapped.
So the engine spins over easily and seems ok I take it tht is just a standard engine and nothing special?
I have also not seen bump stops like this before, anyone shed a bit of light on why they are there? Is it because the axle may have been from a highwaymans or another big couch built camper.
A rather nifty looking SU conversion, looks similar to the one on Paul Cloke's Dolly. Spring assisters on the axle, may have been off a coachbuilt, is the diff any good - save you rebuilding the other one.
well spotted john it is in fact exactly the same su conversion but with a differant air cleaner that dolly had. was this the bits i was gonna bid on on ebay? spring assisters sound like a good idea to me

they may have well have. The guy had the van in a field for some time and then dragged it out and cut it up. He had know real knowledge of it but told me it had a big aluminum body on the back. He had got it as an insurance right off. As a business they deal in scrap tractors and have been for many many years.
Any more than that I cant tell you :-/
If that's the case then maybe not the elusive Paralanian, that was not an insurance write-off but allegedly rotten as a pear:I
It could have been one of various coachbuilts, many where ally bodied.
So, no one told me that the diff in the heaver axle is exactly the same as the diff in the smaller axle. I have now striped the smaller axle and I'm putting that diff in the heaver axle as it is a rather good diff. Only needs new seals and there on there way I thought red would be a good colour for it.
I made it because I can't really find anything that I would class as safe to put a rope/bar on to move the van around until I fit the engine. Anything that you can find to put a rope around will end up in damaging the front valences. Mine are new I don't want them damaged :-0
So what is the correct towing point on the front of a Commer?
