so, i think my first plan of action is to get it slammed and other plans apart from the dreaded body work, will be to lose the pop top, fill the the huge gap it has left, and im thinking of going mid mounted rover v8 and auto box [:0]

it wont be a fast build and it aint gonna be pretty to look at,( buy the panels when i can afford them :( ) so we'll see how it goes.

thanks chaps.

Glad your chuffed! To be honest, at least as it is there is nothing hiding and to be honest there has been many many worse brought back. It looks like a worthwhile project for sure :p

thanks, yeh its a blank canvas so to speak, the main headache for me realy will be trying to put things back like door glass, handles etc,i might keep an eye out for a yank dash that i can poss graft into the void at the front, other things like wiring, i have 2 or 3 complete beetle wire looms kicking about, so i'll have ago at fitting that in.
i'll just see as i go along, but on the plus side, chris had the diff rebuilt and the ratio changed for better higher cruising speed, that alone cost him around 500. odd.

looking forward to making a start, just love the shape, but its just too high !! :D:D:D

Bonus no interior or.........er exterior to get in the way of your ambitions:I
Just a simple re-build;)

Summer's here.....
So they say

Looking into just lowering the Austin A35 a touch we have recently brought, we read (by we I mean Commer Racer and I :I!) that simply using spacers on the front suspension it will lower it 1.5" - Tim realised that the Commer suspension is pretty similar so that makes the front easy - but the rear is more difficult. Our vans rear axle was flipped but then the top leaf springs were welded together - not a good way. Someone on here has done it well, can't remember who though?

It did look cool lowered though, just be careful with it!

She must of let you work on it a fair bit yesterday to get all the parts out and give a clean out. If you want anything vehicle electrics related I always use Vehicle Wiring Products, reasonable website and deliver next day. They have multi core cables or doing long runs, like to the back lights. so you can poke it through the channels and sort out the connections the other end. Can't wait to see the progress, make sure you keep us up to date

Yes you know how people used to stuff in newspaper and fill over to bodge holes well someone decided that a tape would do the same job on this one!!! I tried to take it out when I found it but it is set solid in a big lump of filler!!!

lol, nah its country music i think and yes, i too tried
to pull it out but it wont budge ! :D

luckily she let me sort out all the stuff init so i could check out the floor etc, plus i havnt got a cover for it and didnt want all the parts getting wet ! :)

had a few more mates pop round today to have a look !
seems the most common comment is, W.T.F. ? and WHY? :D

once ive got it lowered,im sure it will dramatically alter the
way it looks, ( for the better :) ) without even starting on the bodywork. we'll see ! :p

thanks chaps.

hi mate good to see another commer getting dropped ! with mine i just left the back just put lower profile tyres on but cut the front coils and slammed bus tyres on ..looks and handles great ..

yes, do like yours alot, :D if you dont mind me asking, how many coils did you cut ?

for the rear, im thinking of going axle over leaves and having
some leaf shackles made which are longer with series of holes
drilled so i can then raise it up abit if towing or finding
it too low ! :D

[8D]

Hi mate .. about 30mm from the front ..Yeah my first van i had i fliped the axle and used longer u boltsto hold the axle but had to weld the rear leafspring to keep it from sagging ! but not the best way .. you can get leafspring made to lower the ride ..

milk&two) Bobby seems to be a bit of an expert in this field, I'm sure he would offer some good advice...he will also do the work for you[8D]

good luck with your van Lodown[8D]

Gatt, just like to say I'm well jealous of your van, it's a spitting image of my dad's old van that I live in hope of finding one day as it has never been registered as being scrapped....[8D]
