"You,re only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

yesterday spent the whole afternoon armed with an angle
grinder amongst other things, and showed rot what a hole
should realy look like ! :D

DSC01068.jpg

wont know yet if ive made the hole long enough to tilt the
engine and box in yet as ive got to borrow an engine crane
from somewhere,but its a start.:p

also cut out the n/s rear arch as thats a bit patchy and i
need to get at the outer panel sometime soon to repair.

DSC01069.jpg

what it doesnt show yet is the 3 hours i spent underneath
the 'ol girl' scraping all the mud and crap etc off the
chassis and foor etc. damn there was some crap under there,
but got the worst off from the rear to the start of the front
wheel arches,(i'd had enough ! [:0] ) so it just needs wire
brushing down now, one small welding repair and then red oxiding
all over. [^]

ive got this week coming to get that lot sorted as with abit
of luck, my back axle might be back the following weekend. :D

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

well she's finaly back on her wheels again,

just abit closer to the ground. :p

DSC01087.jpg

only got this one pic at the mo as i only started putting
the front suspension back together this afternoon so i
could put the wheels back on and get it on the ground.

ive got my little boys 4th birthday party tomorrow and
needed it back together to prove a point to a few mates
who are bringing their kids that it would touch tarmac
again ! :p:p:p

will get some better pics done on sunday.

next on the list now is mounting the engine and gearbox [:0]

yeh, ive just not had much chance to get anything done
on the 'ol girl, its even worse as its right outside the
front window just begging to be worked on ! :D

the back axle took abit longer as my mate had a few other
customers jobs to do,but well worth the wait though.

god what a ba***rd getting those back wheels on ! [)]
i think a hinged panel might be called for ! :I :)

def no enthusiasm lost, just not much time or money at the mo :(

Ooooooooo a slammed Commer hoody, looks mean as it is;)

You definitely can't look mean with a knotted hanky:I

Have you tried putting the wheels on the back using the commer jack rather than a bottle/trolley jack? because you lift by the body the axle tends to drop more to give better access; depends what axle you went with though

:D
unfortunatly that was using the commer body jack with
the trolley jack under the axle and it still would'nt
go on ! [)]

in the end i had to take the front bolts that hold the
leaf springs inplace out and drop the axle down, which
just gave enough room to squeeze the wheel in ! :I

not good obviously if i get a flat, but im hoping
eventually to run airbags, but for the mo i just want
to get it together and on the road. :D

i had a quick measure up this morning and at a rough
calculation ive got about 8" gap between the axle flange
and gearbox flange, does anybody know if that would be
enough for a prop to be made up ?

thanks for your comments guys.

of hours on it today. :D

my age isn't a problem, its the milage !

are you still using the tyres that was on it? if you are remember they are wider than should be on it. Even with standard rear end I had to always use the commer jack to get the rear wheels on.

hi bud, no ive got 205/65's on the rear and 195/60's
on the front.
tbh i dont mind it for the mo as the plan is to get
it through the mot eventually, ( [|)] ) then it'll
be going airbags all round, but this will involve
abit of chassis cutting,so im not tempting fate at
the mo with it being off the road a couple of years.

plus it gives me plenty of saving up time and reading
up time ! :D

oh and the missis still hates it ! ! :D:D:D:D

well, sounds daft but im going to go back a
couple of steps. although im happy with the ride
height, i would like it to go lower when parked
up etc. ie, airbags. :D

i moved the lever shocks up 4" to compensate for
the axle drop, but they now foul the chassis, which
means a change over to modern style shocks, so i
decided to cut out the floor to make it easier to
fab and weld brackets for the shocks.

DSC01123.jpg

it was after i had done this that i decided the rear
axle is coming back out and a slightly narrower one with
factory 4 bar set up and panhard rod is going to replace it.

i obviously cut the floor out further up as well so it'll
make it easier to mount the rover engine and box instead
of grovelling about on the floor underneath it,

im hopefully looking at going for a setup like this.:D

just waiting on sorting out the collection of the axle
and i'll get a pic of the setup.

Some serious modding going on around here at the moment, it's getting very interesting:p
What axle are you planning to fit.

th_DCP_9918.jpg

well believe it or not, a lada 4x4 .
works out about 1.5" narrower either side
and like i said, comes with the factory
4 bar link set up and panhard rod, the coils
springs are mounted on top of the axles, so
providing the chassis does'nt get in the way,
i might be able to utilise the mounts for the
airbags.
wont know for sure until ive collected it. :D
