R2 the battle bus

Well I now have a new coil so though I’d take readings of all 3 to compare them. Not quite what I thought but hopefully it’ll start and not fry another coil. A- the original one B-the replacement C-new one. 476D99E8-583B-4BB7-AEBF-83A5F4599FBF.jpeg

Now I’m really confused. New coil fitted and no spark at coil. Resistance readings good. Live going into coil. One site says check voltage negative to ground. 12v when ignition on which it is. And no voltage when engine is turning over but I’m getting about 9v. I have run an earth to the bracket. So I’m at a loss.

If I’m correct is thinking the dizzy causes the magnetic field to collapse in coil to produce the spark could a faulty dizzy or it’s wires to coil be the problem?

I still have the new electronic dizzy on. I am extremely tempted to put the old dizzy back on to see if the coil will send a spark then?

Hurray he starts. Checked the new condenser I had put on dizzy at the start of all the saga and that was bad so put old condenser back in and old dizzy back in and hey presto he starts. So the new electronic dizzy must be bad too. Well at least I have a few spare coils now.

Yay well done :DDid you re-time it when you fitted the electronic dizzy? I've found they are a mile out when replacing a standard dizzy.

I didn’t nor know how to. Back to points now though. It may need tweaking but fortunately my neighbour is back so he can help me. Hopefully the gears will work soon. I am thinking Lexus gearbox this winter. A good excuse to grease the clutch bits then lol.

Well as per normal I couldn’t get him started after winter. I tried everything I could and got the AA round. Even though it smelt of fuel it was a dry diaphragm. Clutch was stuck on so kangaroo round close didn’t help but it did loosen the metal tube on fuel pump which pumped fuel onto road. Managed to get it to stay back in suspension he’s now stuck in reverse but at least in my driveway. Going to get the neighbours to help me rock him to see if it’ll go back into neutral. Drive is on a slight slope. Maybe I won’t be camping next weekend.

What I might do is put clutch in with lump of wood, brakes off and a couple of blocks away from back wheels and maybe the weight will help clutch unstick. And it won’t roll into my garage.

The usual procedure, engine up to temp, jam the pedal down and leave. Rinse and repeat ;)

That’s what I normally do. Last year I did that for a couple of days and it hadn’t worked so started it in gear and it worked. Got too carried away this time so messed it up. Going to do rinse and repeat once I’ve got out of gear

Wow he who dares wins, looks rather solid under there although you've seen mine so my opinion on what looks good might not be relevant as I think Betsy looks amazing, keep up the great work , enjoying the updates.

Lol the pandemic got in the way a little. This post is now really me wittering on about my incompetence really with problems and fixes and searching for advice etc :)

Finally found some led lights for the back. They’re indicator and brake light. I decided to splice them into the light circuit ignoring the indicator. The photo shows them dimmer than they are. It does show how feeble the original lamps are. Was considering of fitting them as fog lamps but very unlikely I’m going to do any night drives so I’m not going to be blinding anyone. Considering friends following me in bad weather have said I’m nearly invisible hopefully now a lorry won’t plough into the back of me.

Well the battlebus may be reaching the dizzy heights of fame and fortune in the film industry. Well what I actually mean is a backdrop in a uni student film. Only reason I mention this is because they may want a couple of 1970’s vehicles for a static backdrop scene. Idford garage, Devon in February if anyone is local and has nothing to do for a day.
