Out and about

Interesting day , got home checked the radiator and it was just above the fins , I only fixed a leak the other day , well I put new clips on were I assumed it was leaking from , it was definitely leaking from one of the hoses , had a dribble on garage forecourt then I checked the puddle under the van lol, anyhow I checked it out on a drive tonight and couldn't see it leaking , I suspect my radiator cap might need a seal , I dont think it had a seal originally just a brass seal thing , I checked my oil ect just to make sure it wasnt leaking into it , anyhow as I was out checking the radiator my brakes went to the floor , got it home , I suspect it's the master cylinder as it still has original on it ,, luckily i have a new one i ordered when my clutch one also went , anyhow I had a good drive , were I took the picture is were I parked after seeing a skip ,the people of the house came out after I took photo , they thought I was taking pictures to sell it ,, any how got a greasy chair from skip and cleaned it up20250202_160416.jpg heres a before and after

The rad level is about right, no matter how much coolant I put in it always settles just above the fins so don't worry about that.

Thanks panky , I will keep an eye on it as when it leaked I assumed it was the top hose as it had flowered out just past the clip u tighten to hold hose on , so I just put another clip on aswell , i have topped it up a bit, so hopefully its sorted , just the master cylinder to replace, that should be fun as I have never had to
to work on drum brakes or bleed brakes before , front right side brake was sticking a bit first thing in the morning but freed up after a couple of pumps , any parts u think I will need when doing the brakes apart from the master cylinder? I will have to check if it's just the master cylinder but it was empty when I checked . I am going to have a good read of the manual before i get into it . Thanks again,

Check that sticking front brake, it could be where the brake fluid is leaking

will do , if it is

Yes they should be fine but check if the cylinder is a single double acting type, something in my fading memory is saying that very early vans had two single acting cylinders per side so best to check.
The double acting type come in two different bore sizes so measure them before you buy, 5/8" or 11/16" if I remember correctly, if in doubt change both sides. I've got to warn you though the job can be a bit tricky first time as there's a bit more involved than you might think.
Good luck

Thanks panky , I will have a go , need to learn sometime , no signs of leaks anywhere from having a quick look , master cylinder looks good ,and no obvious leaks on the drums , so will have to investigate all ,

I have but now I'm on his naughty list because I cancelled something I ordered by mistake

I am looking at buying new front brake cylinders , seems reasonable priced, 66 pounds for 4 front cylinders , 2 front either side ,

Looks like you've checked what's in there so two cylinders per drum and not one double acting?
Yes MEV (or Jumblemaster) is very reasonably priced but make sure you order the correct items as he doesn't take kindly to cancelled orders and he'll block you.

I had a leak on a rad pipe I had replaced the hoses, I just hadn’t tightened them up enough . Only ever used speedyspares or Martin so unfortunately that’s no help now.

I just checked from rr of drum and the copper pipe in picture loops over to other side , , I,m assuming by that and the manual that it has 2 cylinders ?

It looks that way but pull a drum off just to be sure. You can check for leaks while you're there, a snatching brake can means fluid mixed with brake dust on the shoes.
