The boring bit first....we had discussed a full resto on the red/white commer and discussed with Tim/ Austin / Jon/ Martin about a few options. We had a budget for the work but even then I thought it may start to slip - and that was a budget we had doubled from our first budget .
Phils van came up on FB whilst we were on holiday last week and as I had nothing better to do I messaged him and asked about the van. Lorraine and I spent a few days talking it over and we decided that we would stick to our plan with restoring the one we have. Got back from holiday and had a few more quotes back and thought, sod it! Phil's van is amazing, the hours and work that has gone into it is incredible. I feel so sorry for him that he has had to sell and having had offers from all over the world - US, Japan, Ireland etc as well as a queue of people back at home wanting it, we have agreed a sale and we feel very lucky! Phil didn't particularly want to bump into his baby at car shows in NZ so was happier for it to go abroad. He is gratefully chucking in the period accessories (which includes a rebuilt overdrive gearbox ) and now we just have about 14 weeks for it to arrive .
Isn't it just. It would just blow our budget to get near that level. I love the brass and I love the little torch by the steering wheel if you have seen that pic before? There is a little more to do on the interior but that is about it.
Oh.............thought it was something special. I mean what use is that peep mirror looking down the throat of the jet engine
And the grille is on upside down
I'm assuming the torch is to help pass the time in the evening - shadow puppets? The mirror is obviously just to check that the ice is still plentiful, as I'm told thats where you stick a beer to keep chilled?
..........................and another thing - flip me it's flipping amazing, quite possibly the most flipping amazing thing I've ever seen since I saw a flipping amazing thing
I'll edit this post if my excessive use of emoticons offends anyone, or indeed the over use of 'flipping' upsets the general public
