Clarabel is now in the middle of a field at the 'Bronte Vintage Gathering'. Weather is forecast as 'showers and some sun' . hope there is no cloud as a Spitfire is due to flypast tomorrow. Haworth has pinched Blackpools donkeys for the day!-Thomas will probably try them out ready for September! Martin ,Karen and Family are due in the morning-I hope they manage to dodge the tanks and Jeeps -It's Haworths 1940's weekend Sat and Sun-gets rather busy.
ps very Impressed with MM's latest ventures into the field of carpentry and joinery!! Might meet up with some of you either at Blackpool or Coventry as Hazel has responded to both meets. Thanks for all the pics and videos of Wales! Hazels Dad
 
Clarabel has just been joined by the youngest Commervanfan. Evie May joined the club at 6.03 AM today weighing in at 7lbs 3 oz Hazel and baby both well and looking forward to the donkey rides and Illuminations at Blackpool! ( Hazels Dad )

Wow, some of those Campers were lush, i love those Hillbilly ones and the Bedford ca Romany Dormoblile:p Shame about the overheating prob, all Commer's succumb to a pick up every now and again HAHA! These probs can be narrowed down pretty easily though;)

Update- I think Clarabels problem was a combination of two unrelated problems -The AA man said the 'coil was overheating' -also that there was no feed to the coil. Matt and his dad thought there was a fuel problem. I have narrowed it down to a combination of a new HT lead arcing and eventually riding out. I spent yesterday trawling motorfactors for old HT leads. I have fitted 2 of these still with thermoplastic push on insulators and notice that if they are not pushed right in they spark from the poor insulation to the top coil crimp connection. The old ones ( and I am going back 39 years ) were bakelite and screwed in to the end of the coil after splaying out the copper wires through a copper washer. These needed watching but never failed completely. Once Clarabel stopped -and I mean just stopped dead - I think the restart problem was due to the old vapour lock issue. The journey home involved hills and it was nearly 30 degrees during the day. I have insulated the new much improved route over the radiator cowling with 15mm plumbing insultion covered with plumbers aluminium tape. This looks promising but I need to do a test run and see if we can start again when the engine is realy hot. I hope this has cured the problem but still need to watch the HT lead as the arcing problem could quickly return if the insert pulls out by only 1-2 mm. The lesson in this tale is to keep an eye on all modern HT leads!( I may go back to the old method!) Anyway it was good to dust off the overalls and find my spanners again -an enjoyable return under the bonnet after a twelve year absence. Hazels Dad.
 
We confess to still using copper HT wire and screw on suppressor caps that may well be 43 years old:)

However, we did remove the metal surround off No1 cap to cure a misfire one time:I
 
Modern carbon fibre leads are very good when they are new, BUT they age rapidly and break down and become inefficient, so need changed every couple of years.
Its quite hard to find the old pure copper cored ones now, but personally i prefer them. The only trouble is they have little suppresion, so can interfere with the wireless, radio........... sorry i mean ICE ;)

I use cinquecento sporting ht leads. Ive done 10,000 miles with no problem and just returned from a 500mile round trip to the lake district with a return of 23miles to the gallon pulling a trailor all the gear and the bikes on top of the trailer,the temp gauge never moved from half way and it was 30deg outside.

You wont touch them again Ive put them on all my other cars and never had one go down. But on the camper ive got a set of oe sporting leads cost about £15.00 for the set.

Dont know what exhaust your running but if its a standard one bin it mine used to run hot with a standard one. Built my own using a part triumph stag stainless system. Are you running standard fuel pump and air box?
