Mine's on all the time, no speed controller. It was trial and error with the fan belt, I was back an too to Halfords a few times:I I'm pretty sure it's a 975. You will find that you will run out of adjustment with the standard Commer alternator adjustment bracket, I used the one of the Rapier engine bent to accept the slightly different alignment on my application. It's tight to get the belt on and the alternator just touches the engine mount on full adjustment - one of my jobs in hand is to modify the alternator to block mounting bracket so it changes the center of swing to give better adjustment, if you catch my drift:I
