You need to fill your rear dampers with thicker oil

Is there enough room on the steering lock stops to give more space?

Probably. I trimmed a few mm off the top bump stop plate and it's ok now.

That'll do. With the added bonus of weight reduction

It has 2 bump stops on each side so all good.
I've got the brakes refitted, hubs regressed and painted, drums painted and in the oven. Managed to remove the brake master cylinder ready to rebuild.( that bloody spring cup on the push rod is a right b'stard to get out...)
