"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off no.3"

thats pretty cool indeed!

not as curvy and pretty but... gotta love those doors

sorry to sound ignorant but how does the door work? I would have expected to see some kind of rail on it?

:)

Love the van

I used to have an ex GPO J4 Van 1974, with the BMC 1500 Diesel engine, that was in 1992 and it was rare then, decent condition too, i think its worthy of preservation look upon it as a commer friend not a rival, there were some good camper j4,s available in its time too, i think there is a club somewhere that actually just caters for the other version the BMC 250JU, who also remembers the J2, this looked a bit more commer looking.

Tis Truly Gorgeous [:X][:X][:X] what a great find - Glyn has just said 'jammy wotsit' after seeing photos[:0];) (or words to that effect)

HI Lovely van, I had a J4 in the mid to late seventies, PKT 747 G if i remember rightly,( I NEED TO GET OUT MORE)!!!!

yes i know its not a commer, but it does give me a sliding door fix until the commers done :D.its in real good nick 45,000 miles, b series 1622 engine, butt ugly face [:0] plan to leave it fairly std (apart from engine development:p)as i am only keeping it until the commers done :)
the doors have the sliding rails on the inside, its been great cruzin in the heat with them wide open [8D]
the downside is the seller forgot to mention the front tyre and the fact that it cuts out after 10 miles, recovery from j9 of m25 was real funny [:(!]
seems to have a carb problem possibly heat related so the 26mm solex is turning into 2x 38mm s.u,s at the w/end [^]

recovery from j4 would have been more apt:I[V](sorry, that's terrible)

hope carb sorts troubles - sounds a bit like Nancys' Tramper as it is. That tyre very scary too, looks like a scale model of the Grand Canyon[:0]

Is really a lovely van - are those air vent flaps on the front?

Could prove to be a bit breezy round the knees :I
That's if the gale from the door seals doesn't freeze your butt off;)

well the twin s.u plan was thwarted due to a major clash with the bodywork :( so i decided to try a 40mm amal bike carb, i turned up an adaptor and went for it to find that the standard manifold is not thick enough to bore out that much [B)].
so plan c was a 32mm amal with velocity stack and k&n filter [^]
after 5 jet changes its a major success :p
top speed has gone from 60mph to 66mph into the wind and 72 with the wind on a flat road :D
all testing was done with the little vents open to cool the drivers toes and both doors open [8D]:D;):p

Well cool[8D] I trust there was a generous splattering of dead flys on your knees :D

I think Tim will be starting a thread on the best way to remove flies from flat surfaces :D

there is a mesh grill behind the little flaps so it filters out bees, bluebottles, moths, buffalo etc.
there is very little draught with the door open unless its a side wind [8D]
