I had a nice day with Fontaine today, finishing off little bits - even putting new speakers so we dont get nervous by her moan and groans! I thought, as I was driving her about 'I'm totally falling back in love with her' - and I was eager to let you all know.
I looked down to her temp gauge which was reading 120 degrees and was a little suprised. I took her thermostat out today as she kept running high and i thought that it was not a necessity to have as we dont require any heating! So, it looks like (after having someone have a quck look) that her water pump is not working and she will need a new one. The bottom rad hose had very little heat in it, although the top one did. So i'm guessing the water is not circulating.
Tim, i'm sure you can tell us - but i'm guessing we are going to have to get the rad off and out again in order to change the water pump?
Fontaine is a pain in the bum. We really can not afford to get this done this year, not with EVERYTHING else we have had done to try and get her on the road [V][V]

[xx(] sounds a bit odd [?]. firstly put the thermostat back in as its not good to run without as the engine will take much longer to warm up and wear is massively accelerated [xx(]
the pump should come off fairly easily, you should be able to do it without removing the rad do check the pump before you buy a new one, as it may not be at fault

Cara's mum is selling her house as well so we have a few weeks to find a new place to rent - which means we have to start being relistic
I have an old water pump - but the casing is a little holey. Which means there must of been a newish one (the box came with Fonty when we brought her) with the old engine [:0][B)]

I've just found someone breaking a capri - hoefully we can get the Throttle Rod cheap from them so it will open fully. Perhaps worth asking about the condition of the water pump too - not too sure on their price new? Its just going to be a pain doing it with where it is!

i don,t think a new pump would be very expensive, not really worth using 2nd hand ones.

looks like about £30 for a new one.
could test it by disconnecting the top hose and starting it (carefully)

Yep - £30 max. I'm certain we could get it cheaper than that. Feeeeww. I can hope again!! Thanks for the tips - I think I am free friday to take a look. I'll make sure it is that before i buy one though! If we can get it for that cheap, i'll get it done. I was worried it was going to be alot more expensive!

might have missed something here but if the top hose is hot and the bottom one is cool could it not be a radiator blockage???
because the temp sender is on the top of the block that would account for the high reading.i would take the rad off turn it upside down and run a hosepipe thro the bottom hose,might not work but at least its free, give it a good shake as well its amazing the amount of crud that sits in a radiator
