Thanks Steve - I'm close to taking every part out, getting my grubby mits on them and violently shaking ;) As Tim said, it's a new rad so crud shouldn't be an issue. There could be a blockage, but with taking the thermostat out, would that of cleared any possible air locks as there wouldn't of been a build up in pressure?

I had a devil of a job venting the air out of the cooling system on my old Sierra - just filling the rad wouldn't shift the air lock. I ended up disconnecting the heater hoses (with the heater valve fully open) and topping up through one of them until coolant came out of the other, you never know it might be as simple as that.

Thanks panky - it has been running hot since the new engine - which i guess does make a case for a water pump issue. I'm pretty certain there is no air lock now, we did suffer that at the start though.

I do seam to be losing some - about a mug full, maybe more. I don't think it is all going out the overflow pipe?

I'm thinking head gasket - but that wouldn't acount for the lack of circulation unless it was causing an airlock by gases seeping into the cooling system. Maybe try a good dose of Radflush or similar in case there is a partial blockage somewhere.

Its had a new head gasket too - but my neighbour has also suggested that. It wouldn't be an expensive think to do either - it's worth covering all bases!

Fontaine is getting all dolled up tonight and going to http://www.meltonclassics.co.uk/ her first classic meet with us! Its only about 300 metres from my house - and down hill so we are sure she'll at least get there!!

After the timing and emmisions were looked at yesterday we took her for a spin - she only heated to about 100 degrees so its looking good. I am about to stick the thermostat back in now, fingers crossed!

I don't know about you guys but perhaps there is room for smurf and fontaine together in that field? She is on her VERY last warning. Behave or become a dove home!

We got back safe and sound!! There was quite a bit of interest in her - one couple had been to vanfest and saw a Commer - swampster perhaps?? A few questioned the auto gearbox....but overall she was as she should have been!

It wasn't a great turn out, and the nights are drawing in really quickly aren't they! We popped back home to pick up the camera as we forgot, only to return and not take any pics!! Sorry :I

There was a mint Mk 1 Ford Capri there which was :p[^][:0]...nice. It was beautiful and completely original - shocking really, you have to be able to have some fun in them! That was our fave. Another fave was a ginagarous Harley - ex sheriff bike which must take hours of polishing!

What a difference running on 4 cylinders makes [B)] I wonder who put those spark plugs in Tim ;):I I know for a fact it was I!! :D

Water pump is on and WORKING and the engine is ticking over so much quieter now the spark plug is in nice and snug. I think that was the problem I told you guys at the weekend - rather than the alternator :I

On a side note - i've had to steal a peek at the forum every now and then as we have moved to a little cottage and await BT to connect us a phone (tomorrow) so have been without the Internet!

Very suprised the water pump was that knackerd [xx(]. Previous owner must have had something against anti freeze [V]
