Fontaine's first week

just looked again sybhil has the little handle like fontaines but also has the screw head like Harvey,,I should think you can easily undo the screw & place a little metal & shake proof washer [?]sorted :D[}:)]:D

Thanks for all your pointers. This is our first Commer- and our first proper classic.

The switch, we still have no idea where it goes too....it goes into the roof lining and towards the back. Nothing terrible happens when it is flicked....that we know of so it'll stay a mistery!

We've looked more at the bunks, boxed it does not fit at all. If the wooden batton is screwed to the side of the pop top, the box will not fold back up. We could put it up without the box, but we're yet to decide, it may look a bit messy and as it isn't something we ourselves will use we will leave for now.

We are having the front seat upholstered at the end of the month, we think they are actually from a Granada rather than a dayvan as first thought. Then the next job is the rear door. It is the only one that has gone-

But it needs fixed sooner rather than later!! We may try and get some sort of bracket together as well to return the spare wheel to under the van whilst we are at it - and then a roof rack (along with filling the holes in the roof!)

We're so anxious to have the spring/summer upon us so we can use it! Our main downfall is wanting everything done straight away.

not surprised you're keen to get going, that's a lovely van to get going in[^] another common area for rusty bits those door bottoms, good to see yours look saveable.

Managed to dig out my old timber bunk brackets, hopefully photos show o.k where they would mount up to - have tried to get some shots of equivalent piece in my van - they screwed through into thickish timber and used to take my weight (in my younger, slimmer days[:X]) - although found it a bit narrow to get relaxed so never used overnight.

sounds like that switch may have been for a fog light.

Fontaine has undergone a little bit of interior refurbishment whilst sleeping(begrudgingly) in the warmth of a storage barn...we've wimped out on having a trundle in F this winter :)
We decided to keep the front seats that came in Fontaine-which we think were from an old Granada but had them recovered with blue and cream piping and the back seats with blue corduroy. We had the curtains remade in a old english floral style material. We also recovered the door cards and some sun visors which we nabbed from a Triumph 2000..

The front seats were done at TEK Seating who we would highly recommend as were rather cheap but professional and the curtains etc were kindly made by Jons mum-commissions welcome!!:p


Fontaine is of course almost worth as much as the envious £22,000 VW sat opposite her ha! Although the £92,000 Daimler which is also in the storage barn made her and us slightly blush!

I like razors black & white tile's/lino? looks really period.but quite fancy wood flooring,I notice that a lot of the vans have what look like huge door mats,with rubber edging,you can still get them at carpet right [:0]just need to cut to fit.

hi van is looking great. we had great hopes for doing up ours. again nothing really needed doing but wanted to put our own stamp on him. however money seems to mean we have gone from - repaint, front seats and interior, to just front seats and interior and now after costing up getting the front seats recovered - it looks like poss just repair job on one seat that is ripped and new covers and curtains.:(

we too have been thinking about flooring - altho now we are staying green it is not so important. i had seen some floor tiles in ikea that were a sort of hessian, i'm not sure if they would be a bit harsh on feet but we have big bouncy dog so thought they would be good for hiding dirty pawprints:)

Chris, we shall get a proper pic of the mini asap. This one shows it a bit better, but only from the back end. It's up for sale now, they are after about £3500 we think - if only we found that behind the commer cushions....!!

We took a look under fontaine, she has a whopping great water tank one side and all the exhaust the other, so we are stuck as to where the wheel carrier can go (and now we realise why the wheel was on the roof!) The original clasp bit that you showed us is not there!

We got all the material for under £50. Thats for the seat cushions and curtains. Lining was a little bit extra though. It was from a new shop near to us called Boyes. For what we wanted it was great.

We like the idea of hessian Julie, it is def a possibility. We were looking at industrial rubber flooring too, but it's £50 m2 so a little bit ridiculous!! We have looked at bamboo, vinyl, wood....the list is endless! But as you mentioned, money. We have already found out that you need to keep a bit in the pot for unexpected issues. There is alway something that needs done!

Bessies' rug in the back was 25p in a car boot sale:I[8D] - fitted absolutely perfectly - right on my budget too;):D

Options are pretty endless, just as long as it wears well and can take getting wet once in a while :)

hi, Jon cara you won't find that bracket on the roof lol....do you need any pic's ? It was perhaps easier to see under sybhil as she is missing her skirts :Iperhaps when the weather warms up you could bring fontaine down if you speak to Tim nicely he could wield is welder if it helps ?depends how you want to fit as original or unique to fontaine.The blue is really nice a great improvement,are you going to sell the old cushions & curtains ?

25p [:0] that's a budget we'd love to stick to!! We have a big car boot near us and we are always picking up 'odds and sods' - but no flooring yet....but the van is being weighed down more and more!

We remembered it was the opposite side to the water tank chris, but we have an exhaust fixed together (according to the receipts we have from the previous owner) with a transit van downpipe and a Capri 2.8 box. and it goes the full length of that opposite side which doesn't allow the carrier to fit in, without being clear of the exhaust! And as we said, the clasp is no longer there. Again, we'll get some pics next time we visit the van. But if you could take a pick of yours under sybhil that may help, thank you! The other thing on the roof (is not a sharks fin) but an aerial. We have no use for it unless we get a t.v so it needs to come down really!

The curtains and seat covers are available if anyone wants them. They were stitched on the original seating foam so we will just need to unpick them and then they will need re-sewn on to the foam or a zip sewn in! We are keeping the original foam for now. They are only a few years old we think and are in decent condition but we wanted to make our on mark on her.

hi, great van. In the first pic under the draws is that a gas heater? if so how well does it work and do you know who manufacturers it please.
 
Hi Lancelot, we got the van late Oct so have only had the gas fire on to test it really. Until we get to stay in it we won't know how well it works! I shall try and get the manufacturers name as soon as possible. It's in storage so it may take a week or so.

FLOORING- i just saw last minute, 6 sq m of Grey rubber flooring on ebay....the slightly warmer car boot! It's left over from someones bathroom i think but is just enough for the van - £50!! We were looking at that cost (£35-50) per sq mt, so i think i grabbed a bargain!
 
hi there fontain its woolfy .i dont know if you already knew but those carpet sets that i make for the front cab we can also make for the rear of the van as well which fit nice and neatly around all of your cupboards . you can have them in lots of different colours they are rubber backed and nice and comfy.we can even stitch in a rubber matt for you by the back doors. these cost about £160.00 fitted. oh you have email as well. many thanks. take a look at my web page and you will see the cab carpets.;):p
