DODGE SUPERVISTA

Yep, there's a hexagon head plug on the side of the oil filter housing. Undo this and you should be able to withdraw the spring and seat

cheers all looks good... closed valve and opening freely when pushing it. Hoping to god it isn't the crank..all new shells etc. Be a right pain that. All else it can be is the sender I guess but unlikely as fine when running just on hot low tick over which would suggest it dropping to around 15psi. Going to change the running in oil out tomorrow for some 20/50 but still a new engine shouldn't drop even with thinner oil in (if the running in oil is thinner)

only other things I've read is the oil feed pipes to head and timing cover...will check rocker is getting a feed tomorrow am. Timing one will be a right pain

sorry for all q's...with the rocker cover off and fired up..there's oil getting up there doesn't pour out of the tappet holes more of a small spitting ...the end ones weren't doing that even but all springs seemed to have some oil. When switched off oil poured from the oil feed t piece...anybody know if all this is normal behaviour? Cheers jim

I've seen rocker shafts with seals on the T piece and ones without but if oil is getting to the rockers it should be OK. I don't think that would be the cause of low pressure as the pipe feeding it is only very small bore and would restrict the flow more than the rockers. You spent a lot of time to get things right so don't panic just yet, see if you can get hold of a new pressure switch or even a gauge to check the pressure.
When you checked the pressure relief valve did you have a poke around inside the housing to see if there was anything lurking in there?

I took the whole unit off Panky. All clean. The valve was quite a firm push to open it up but difficult to know what that means I guess. always been good before but think a new sender and valve is first port of call, then will try measure pressure. Seems ok today up to now with 20/50 back in but only done a few miles.
you got the two items Martin?

What oil did you have in before?
Sorry, running in oil, just read you earlier post again:rolleyes:

probably quite thin and with added detergents, could be worrying for nothing but no harm in replacing sender and valve.

thanks Steve... Never did it with the engine you put together which is the only worry... Maybe it ticked over little higher, got a rev counter to add to of a little slow and will get it checked for pressure just in case... Hate to trash it with all the work gone in

Get yourself a pressure gauge before you start delving, as Steve says they run pretty low anyway. If it was an 'A' series I'd be worrying - they tick over at about 40 psi.

Been doing the timing and colourtune this evening and now the stupid question :)

When doing the timing I understand that you disconnect the vacuum advance so I tried to set it to 8 degrees (that correct)? I presumed when you disconnect the vacuum (and block the hole on the manifold) and then revved it the timing wouldn't advance on the crank which it clearly does.

So are you meant to get the revs about right on tickover and then set to 8 degrees?

Secondly on the colourtune it's a nice blue flame which seems about right to me but you do get the odd yellow flame on tickover - I guess this is normal for a less than modern engine or any thoughts if it shows a possible issue?

Cheers

Jim

Yep the bob weights advance the timing too, a tick over of about 1000 rpm will be OK when setting the timing up but I would only use the strobe as a guide. Engine wear and different fuel grades make a bit of nonsense out of the original settings so a bit of trial and error is required. Adjust the timing so you get the smoothest tick-over then test run - does it pink? if no advance slightly. Does it pink? if no advance a bit more, if yes retard until it just stops.
Again I always use the Colour tune as a starting point, what you describe sounds about right but check the plugs after a good run and adjust according to the colour of them - we likes a bit of fiddling:)

Thanks Panky. Trying to find a oil pressure dial at moment for security and proper checking - so trying to work out the thread and diameter of the oil sender switch in the block to make sure I order the right one - fun fun fun :)
