Considering selling my van.

Morning everyone, I've just got back from a successful night out apart from all the rain. I'm going out again on Wednesday. The van ran fine, it does seem to be revving hire than it was before. I've turned the mixture screw on the side of the carb two and a half times is that correct? The chokes all working fine, it's like it's revving higher anyway so the choke isn't making any difference.thanks.

2 1/2 turns sounds a bit too much it should be more like 1 1/2. Try getting the engine warm then turn the mixture screw in 1/4 turn at a time, from where it is now, until you hear the engine start to falter, then turn it back out 1/4 turn or until the engine picks up again. I find this about right but you may need to fine tune a bit.
 
Thanks Panky, I will follow your instructions how do you fine tune? How many turns is 11/2? Where would I be without you.:confused:
 
One and a half turns:rolleyes: Once you've got it running smoothly go for a nice run to get it warmed up then take out one of the spark plugs to examine it - it should be a nice biscuit brown. If it's black it' too rich, to pale a colour and it's to weak a mixture so you can adjust by altering the mixture 1/4 turn either way. Post a pic of the plug once you get round to it.
 
Is this the screw I need to adjust? Just to confirm i need to turn the screw leftwards to turn it back?

Yep that's the one.
Screw it right in to begin with and count the turns so you know where you're starting from, then take it back out again and start the adjustments.
 
When using the choke doesn't make any difference is one, sooty exhaust tail pie, fuel consumption higher than normal, can also lead to wear on the cylinder bores if left for too long as the excess fuel washes the oil film away.
 
whether the choke is in or out the revs are the same, I'm going to have a look at it tomorrow. I'm suspecting the screw needs to be turned in.
 
I turned the screw completely in and it was 3 and a half turns. I've had a play and it's now at two turns. It sounds fine, there's still a little wobble in the engine bay every now and again. Haven't had chance to go out in it yet. The choke as functioning properly, so I've had another play ands it's fine.
 
Ok, i think I've been adjusting the idoling screw. From what I've looked at on the carburettor the mixture screw is on the side facing the air filter. I've noticed some black smoke coming out of the exhaust.
 
The black smoke was because the choke was still out:rolleyes:. My van seems to be running ok, I've adjusted what i think is the mixture screw(i adjusted the screw that I posted a picture of) two turns(it was 3 and a half) and the running speed seems fine.I'll take my van for a run tomorrow but it's running fine at the moment.
