"RAN"the van & N0.1

First Commer of the production line in 1973 (2nd January) was '25VT 151977', built for the GPO. Second off was number '15VH 158546'. Last one ever built was on the 17th Feb 1982, 25VT 632571. Might interest someone?:D

Yeh alls well will, dave has got my number so give me a bell some time and i will get the kettle on!!

Chris they have all rotted away thats where!!!

Wonder how many pickups they actually were??[:0][:0];):)

Hi Martin..
That number must relate to the "Special batch order" !!
For the GPO Then..That explains it ..;)
& Hi Jon.. Yes i will have to get tog with dave to come and view
your collection.. Might give u a call over the xmas break..
Cheers.. Will.. :)

mine's 421 same as Ran,registered in 78 but must have been sitting around the coach builders some time as it's the pre facelift front. Not much chance of getting tax exemption for that then.:(

Remember it is 'date of registration' on the V5. It is actually date of manufacture you are after! Most camper vans spent quite some time sitting around in yards awaiting conversion, possibly for months after they left the production line. Even after conversion to camper van, they could then sit in a showroom for possibly weeks on end. So you can end up with a rather long gap between 'build date' and date of registration! Don't be in a rush to get 'Free' road tax, restricted movement for 'Historic vehicles' is just around the corner!:D

Bit of a tease I know, but they have this in Germany already for classics. There are whispers that it will filter through to other EU countries. You don't get anything for free in this life, and a good many classic fans did not want the 'free' road tax when it was introduced, because we knew that one day there would be a sting in the tail...there always is with Governments!Keep an eye on white papers being introduced over the next twelve months by the Department of Transport, and keep an eye on the classic vehicle press;)

if you go to page 1 start of topic you find this posted by Will :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just thought that some of you might like this info..
I have been in touch with a very helpful bloke at Renault trucks
who has given me some info on the last Commer PB to come
off the line in 1972.
So for a vehicle to be tax exempt it must have been BUILT before
midnight on 31st Dec 1972.. (you probably all know this already?)

To prove this you need a copy of the Line Book..

The date of registration not important !!
Remember that most campers sat around at convertors for many many months before being converted and registered..
The last PB off the production line in Jan 1973 had the chassis number-158645. ( the magic number.. )
So if your chassis number is prior to this one it is tax exempt..
if its after, dont waste any money getting an expert to date it for you!!

Although be aware that a special batch order went through with the last chassis number in Jan 73 being 151976 ?

So check your numbers, even if it was registered in 74 you may still have a chance of tax exemption, and find yourself 180 quid better off every year..
Good Luck all
Will

I was only asking cos if someone on the forum could get hold of this line book then we could help eachother out without having to pay the guy £30.00 Thats what I had to do to get Skye dated. She is now tax exempt thanks to him but he must have this line book.

His name is Mike Worthington-Williams by the way

Does anyone know how to get hold of the £30 ebay guy?

Or better still, Mike Worthington Williams ?

Cheers
Jules
