Back of the garage

Thanks guys:I
Another day spent on Harvey today[8D] The small front grille went on with some new mesh and then the back bumpers - I've been dying to put these on. They are new old stock chrome beauties that I got for the 1974 price on the original packing[^] They still had the black protective tape on them and it was a bugger to get off, I eventually soaked them in hot water, which softened the tape and made it easier to peel off, but the adhesive was left behind - it took a liberal splash of celly thinners to shift that an a final polish with Aotosol brought them up luvverly. There's nothing quite like new chrome[8D]
Everything electrical I touched didn't seem to work and I spent ages sorting things out[V] First I had lost the horn contact plunger so I was about to fit a temporary horn push on the dash and was sorting out the wiring and there it was - in the tin I keep my spade connectors, fuses etc:I So steering wheel on (looking dead posh[8D]) plunger in 'thole and horn push clipped in place and.....nothing[xx(] I took the horn push off again and shorted out the contact and still nothing[B)], after checking all the connections I decided to have a look at the fuse - trouble is my new fuse box is under the side engine cover and the bench seat makes it awkward to get to - but after a few minutes struggling supporting the seat on my head the fuse box was revealed and sure enough it had popped - I must have shorted the horn out somehow when fiddling with the cowling:I Crikey that Twin Nautilus is loud - it scared the s**t out of me when I tried it[:0] The headlights wouldn't work either but a good old stomp on the dip-switch made them work after a fashion but not reliably, I'd ordered a replacement from Speedies and it arrived this morning, hmmmm three contacts instead of four[V] but one of them was doubled up so a bit of jiggery pokery with a short piece of wire fixed that. The flippin main beam indicator wouldn't work then - it just flickered as the switch was operated - so a new wire was taken from the main beam feed off the switch to the warning light. All lights now working fine:D
Right now the wipers and washers - it took me a while to find the wiper arms as they were buried under all the stuff that had been pitched at the BOTG but the eventually surfaced but will need new blades (surprise surprise) - the washers were blocked solid and took a while to clear and set up.
Tomorrow I've got to find space to put the doors back on and fit his nice new wheels - who knows it could be MOT time by the end of the week:p

It was raining today so I couldn't do anything on Harvey[V]...................you must be joking a little bit of precipitation never hurt anyone:D
Harvey had to make an even longer journey today - all the way to the drive in front of the house so I had enough room to get the doors on. He even made it onto the main road when I turned him round to do the other side[:0] The drivers door wasn't too much of a problem except that it's heavy holding it in place on your shoulder and fumbling for the bolt holes:I The passenger side was a little more tricky and I had to pack out the bottom hinge to line the door shut up. I did a repair on the corner of the door step up to the B pillar and unfortunately my shaping wasn't quite right and the profile needed 'adjusting' - a little bit of new paint required in the area:I. While I was out there the new wheels and tyres went on and the wheel arches touched up with under-seal where I had missed a couple of places. The door handle went back on once he was back in the garage - I lost one of the nuts and the spanner inside the door[V]
First pics for Heidi - some new blingy bits:p

I'm knackered[|)]
What seemed like a few simple quick jobs took all day, but there were quite a few of them. I bought an old set of caravan towing mirrors from a car boot sale many years ago for a £1 - not that I intended towing a caravan but the mirrors are polished stainless and just happen to fit on the end of the Commer arms[8D] Unfortunately the fixing screws had disappeared long ago so off to the local engineers merchant and some nice stainless ones purchased.

Unfortunately the silver on black number plated haven't arrived so the old ones will have to do for now.

Hubcaps all shiny and the pop-top seal cleaned up and back on[8D]

The rear numberplate light refused to work even though the bulb and holder were fine so a new feed was run from the side light.
We set to on the interior when he was back under cover and gave it a well earned clean up.

Harvey is ready for his close up:)
