Who's side are you on Cazz - scared I might 'break' the forum
I got up early this morning (well early for me when I'm on holiday:I) and sorted out the few jobs that needed doing, I could here the neighbours shuffling about and slamming doors when I was drilling and hacksawing at 8 o'clock

. Good job I checked the headlight alignment as the offside one was a mile out - must have been when I fitted the halogens. I had everything sorted out with an hour and a half to go before Harvey's medical - that 90 minutes seemed to last forever. I set off a bit early with the excuse that I needed to put some petrol in so I took the long way round to savour the few minutes I had behind the wheel. Pulling away I was instantly aware of the extra urge of the modded engine - not blistering but strong and sure - and remarkably quiet[^] Once I was in top I flicked the switch on the gearknob - the overdrive cut in smoothly and the revs dropped dramatically, I was only doing about 45 but I had to test it. The row from the gear box was there in 1st, 2nd and 3rd - but disappeared in OD 3rd and top.
The short journey to the MOT station was over far too quickly and as I pulled into the forecourt all heads turned (must have been the gbox noise:I) As soon as I pulled up a random bloke stuck his head through the window all grinning and excited 'I love these' he said 'and they all smell the same inside' I hope he wasn't talking about me

. I had the pleasure of the owner of the establishment doing the honours - John Rushworth is a true gent and a pillar of the community who has been in the business for years and I trust him totally. 'Haven't done one of these for a while' he said and I felt a bit guilty when I pointed our the hand brake configuration and the fact that the brake lights came on with it - he remembered:I The girl behind the desk did a search on Commer an came up with Cob, Imp and Walk-Thru - no PB but John sorted it out and guided her through making a new entry was made on the system. Then Harvey was driven By John into the bay and I waited in anticipation, I was hanging around furtively and John emerged from under the van and asked if I wanted a job. I was flattered as I thought he was referring to my handy work but he just wanted me to sit in the cab and wiggle the steering wheel[8)] Every one in the garage seemed to congregate underneath as I was sat there up on the ramps and I could here John explaining to one young mechanic the joys of simple engineering, one bloke with a clip-board was having some trouble coming to terms with a hand brake on the front wheels. Although it's not required John did an emissions test - boy Harveys running rich which will be a bit of a problem as I can't get to the mixture screw so the carb will have to come off to adjust it - trial and error:I strolling back to reception I asked if he had found any horrors - just a little play in the kingpins - but that's to be expected he said

I got the green slip with no advisories so I guess they couldn't have been that worn.
The journey back was short but so pleasurable, even though Harvey was coughing and spluttering a bit under acceleration, I revelled in switching the OD in and out. I couldn't go any further as I've not got a tax disc (I should have insured him sooner so the cert would have been there) but a quick check under the cover didn't show any obvious problems, may have been the heat - he was ticking over for ages in the MOT station.
Back home Barb greeted me at the door, she felt as sick as me with anticipation in the morning, and her face lit up when I gave her the thumbs up. I felt elated and exhausted and thought to my self 'I'll have the afternoon off' - no chance. The fuel gauge had stopped working, that was traced to the wiring mod I did yesterday on the numberplate light - I connected up the old wire again and both the gauge and the lamp worked:I The modified Mini window seals are now on and finish off the doors nicely[^]
Next let me introduce you to a new concept 'Mothering Your Gutters' This was pioneered by Mr Bernie Booth and I copied the idea in my own way. After cleaning and repairing the gutters I found that the spray gun just would not give a decent layer of paint down within them - it just deflected itself out - so when on a visit to see Gladys in the Mansion Bernie was treating his gutters with a syringe if paint. What a good idea I though, but where to find a syringe other than the local park[:0] Barb was on the case and while visiting a local garden centre found this

A 'Mothering' kit for feeding baby animals - ah bless, did a fine job of flooding Harveys gutters with some synthetic enamel and all for £1
