Thanks guys:I
Another day spent on Harvey today[8D] The small front grille went on with some new mesh and then the back bumpers - I've been dying to put these on. They are new old stock chrome beauties that I got for the 1974 price on the original packing[^] They still had the black protective tape on them and it was a bugger to get off, I eventually soaked them in hot water, which softened the tape and made it easier to peel off, but the adhesive was left behind - it took a liberal splash of celly thinners to shift that an a final polish with Aotosol brought them up luvverly. There's nothing quite like new chrome[8D]
Everything electrical I touched didn't seem to work and I spent ages sorting things out[V] First I had lost the horn contact plunger so I was about to fit a temporary horn push on the dash and was sorting out the wiring and there it was - in the tin I keep my spade connectors, fuses etc:I So steering wheel on (looking dead posh[8D]) plunger in 'thole and horn push clipped in place and.....nothing[xx(] I took the horn push off again and shorted out the contact and still nothing[B)], after checking all the connections I decided to have a look at the fuse - trouble is my new fuse box is under the side engine cover and the bench seat makes it awkward to get to - but after a few minutes struggling supporting the seat on my head the fuse box was revealed and sure enough it had popped - I must have shorted the horn out somehow when fiddling with the cowling:I Crikey that Twin Nautilus is loud - it scared the s**t out of me when I tried it[:0] The headlights wouldn't work either but a good old stomp on the dip-switch made them work after a fashion but not reliably, I'd ordered a replacement from Speedies and it arrived this morning, hmmmm three contacts instead of four[V] but one of them was doubled up so a bit of jiggery pokery with a short piece of wire fixed that. The flippin main beam indicator wouldn't work then - it just flickered as the switch was operated - so a new wire was taken from the main beam feed off the switch to the warning light. All lights now working fine
Right now the wipers and washers - it took me a while to find the wiper arms as they were buried under all the stuff that had been pitched at the BOTG but the eventually surfaced but will need new blades (surprise surprise) - the washers were blocked solid and took a while to clear and set up.
Tomorrow I've got to find space to put the doors back on and fit his nice new wheels - who knows it could be MOT time by the end of the week
