Back of the garage

Not a nice job at the best of times, there is always one inaccessible or seized bolt and it is always the last one. I struggled replacing the matrix on the Punto several years ago.

We got back from five hour drive in Harvey and parked up, switched the engine off but left the fan and water pump running to cool things down. What's that noise  ? A high pitched squealing coming from under the engine cover. Lifting the lid and the sound got even louder -I suspected the Davies Craig water pump had finally minced it's bearing and although it wasn't leaking it was time for a new one.
I found the best deal was from Oz Parts on eBay, cheaper than elsewhere and £50 cheaper than the one I bought all those years ago when I first got Harvey back on the road, 2009 I think.
The new one is made from cast aluminium, unlike the originals that were injection moulded plastic, and is a slightly more compact design but seems to pump just as well.

Old V new

Harvey's mains hook up has always consisted of throwing an extension lead into the van before the roof sides were pushed into place. I thought it was about time to improve things to get rid of the trailing lead.

A double socket on either side with USB charging ports should be sufficient.

I used pattress boxes which made fitting them to the thin cupboard sides easy and resulted in a nice flush installation, a little packing piece was need for the clamps though.

The consumer unit was bought off eBay for £15, I should have know better:rolleyes: After everything was connected up I loaded the socket up with a kettle and a toaster and flicked the test button to cut the power and test the safety cut off, there was a pop and the smell of burning insulation. The RCD had cooked itself, so much for cheap stuff. So I replaced the RCD, and fitted an extra MCB to supply individual sockets, with half decent items that cost twice as much as the original unit complete, the fridge runs off a separate 6 amp one - at least the enclosure seems decent enough.
Don't buy those consumer units, they are dangerous:oops:
