Back of the garage

We're back where it all started - again.
Work on Harvey has commenced and I've started with the drivers cab door. He is missing his door check straps and one fateful day the wind caught the door and creased it :( I decided to tackle the dents before the door bottom repair as the crease was across where the repair section goes.

I got one of the cheap ebay dent pullers to see if it would work

This is what you get for £18

I thought I'd got a free gift but it was just packing around the glue gun

The dents

First attempt at gluing the plastic things failed as it just fell off. I heated the panel and then attached the glued tab and this time it stuck fast.

And the result after a couple of hours of gluing and pulling ( and much muttering) was....................................a complete waste of time:rolleyes:
It looked like it was working and the panel was flexing under the pressure but it just wouldn't pull hard enough to pop the dent before the tabs broke free.
So i decided a more brutal approach was required.

Riv-nuts, a bolts, a claw hammer and a piece of wood

That did the trick:)

I'm sure that the ebay puller would work on thinner panels but Harvey is just to tough:cool:

That’s the way to do it, cracking work. I need to do similar where the van got run down a wall. What are those things you welded on?

They're M5 riv-nuts (rivet nuts) and seem to be just the right size. I remember PJL did something similar with bolts but the riv-nuts worked for me. I've used the riv-nuts the way they are supposed to be used, on loads of things and had some in so thought I'd try it.

Mr Angry came out and the bottom of the door fell off with fright.

A bit grotty in there

Skin repair (not mineo_O) tomorrow

Looking good and bringing memories back from not so long ago LoL , love doing panel work on the bench but no so keen upside down and inside out on the floor !!!

He'd better be ;)

The door bottom repair is complete and just waiting for some new flap discs to clean the weld up

While I was working on that I had the quarter light frames in the citric acid bucket and I found out the bottom was made of not much:(

So I made a repair section for the glass frame

I even got the catch freed off, it's been seized since I got him:)

The main frame isn't too bad and will tackle that tomorrow.

Looking good great job on the window frame’s, when doing the door did you use a air line to cool the weld’s off each time ?.

I should have done but just tacked and waited tacked and waited tacked and..........................
The seam is fine and should rub down OK with a skim of filler to finish but the panel above has sprung a little, something I address one I've sorted the welding out.
I was looking at getting some Wetrag heat absorbing putty but it seems quite difficult to get hold of and expensive

Door step next
Old inner and outer cut out, there wasn't much left of the innero_O I cut the lower panel back so the inner step could be easily welded to the inner sill, the lower panel needed a repair in that area too.

Bad bits cut back to reveal a perfect jacking point, I replaced that many moons ago - somewhere on the early pages of this thread

All welded up and the lower panel section repaired and tacked back in. Still needs a bit of work to tidy it up - did I say that I hated bodywork:rolleyes:

Awesome job mate.
I'm a subscriber to a youtube channel called Fitzees fabrications. The guy builds all sorts of body panels with just basic tools, no English wheels etc. You should check him out.
