1974-Commer-Camper-Van ebay

We're really after and auto-sleeper style van, thats the style my better half has seen and liked.

Just come back from a trip to Beaulieu, a few campers down there, no commers but surprisingly plenty of Commer spares.

kjh;)

Did you go around the museum - very early Autosleeper in there [^]
What's all this about spares :p

'Harvey the RV'

I visit Beaulieu twice a year for the autojumbles and always lookout for Commer and Hillman spares. I've noticed a definate increase in the last year or two of Pa/Pb spares, mainly mechanical, steering, brakes etc.

When I ask for Commer commercial spares I often get told they only go up to van spares. I don't take a great deal of notice about prices, I suppose when you've got one you take more notice.
kjh;)

I emailed the seller of the Highwayman for more info and pics, a helpful chap who was only too please for his pics to be posted on here. To quote him
'It is rare to get a van this age in such good condition on underside and in all other areas. Certainly in my tenure and probably before it has been kept inside which always helps.'

Photos are a bit grainy but you get the idea - it looks very nice.

Do you think that people are thinking Commers are worth more than they really are? Perhaps looking more towards VW prices?
kjh;)

Yes and it sucks! I've seen what has happened to the VW and Ford scene in the last 6-7 years and it isn't good - everything suddenly becomes over rated hot property, over exposed and all about money, then people like you and me can no longer afford our hobby/interest! I'm not bitter of course!!.... well maybe a bit!

I hope this doesn't happen with the Commer scene otherwise I'm well out of it before I even got into it! Only trouble is that there's not many Commers about and interest does appear to be growing.

There is a long way to go before we get anywhere near VW prices. Yes the average cost of one of our vans has gone up but remember we were the poor relations for a long time - no one wanted a Commer. I think what we are seeing is a natural rise to normal levels for a classic how many other classic cars out there still offer so much value for money. There will always be the exceptional one - a vehicle that stands out that will make ridiculous money but even that trend may be on the wain - look at that blue Maidstone the other week - it went for a grand less than it did 12 months ago. There will be speculators who come in and try to make a swift buck but they will get stung eventually and they will move on to the next 'big thing' and there will be those who come along for the ride because it is the new cool thing to do, but after it all levels off there will be the ones left who just enjoy our vans for what they are - unique and British [^]
Rant over - sorry:I

That Highwayman didn't meet reserve, another sign that buyers are not prepared to pay what the sellers want - that itself will drive prices down again.

I actually had my first thumbs down the other day from a dark side wannabe! It's pretty sad really. I was driving along and was about to pass a VW Transporter camper and i waved up and the 2 lads gave me a thumbs down whilst giggling to themselves??? I mean, cmon for fu@k sake how childish! I gave them a look as if to say " Yours isn't exactly the REAL VW is it " HAHAHA. Each to their own i guess. But personally, and no disrespects to VW owners i'd choose a Commer any day. However in some small way it would be cool if Commer's shot up in value because they are sought after as they are and it would be fun to watch darksiders scramble over the scraps whilst all the good ones are owned by us lot......Well....Martin HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

All jokes aside though, i'd love to see more Commer's getting restored and used. But i love the Boutique element of owning a less familiar style of van to the norm. I love the VW and what people do to them but it's 3 yesses to the Commer for me;-)
My old man drives a Mazda Bongo and keeps on trying to convince me that it's the way to go for camping??? Then i remind him of the times he took us away as kids in the Commer, and he just gives me that look as if to say " Yeah well maybe your right then........But Bongo's are a bloody good van boy plus they run on Derv unlike your juicy Commer......But yeah dad, you just said it......Juicy:) HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Where have i gone with this reply anyway? Oh yeah.....Keep Commer's cheap! Greedy sellers keep away!

I wave at most campervans when in a commer - you'd think people would be more like minded but each to their own

I can't wait to be able to wave at people in my van! :I

Personally, i love having a Commer!! I love owning a unique, BRITISH van, and i can't wait to get out there, showing her off!!

The NEW Girlfriend in a Commer

Not all dark side owners are nasty[:0] Ive attended a few dark side meets such as bug jam,van fest and the like in the commer with my darkside mates and the odd few of them like looking at something different. The last one i went to there were a few more commers on there so looks like they might be seeing the light!;):D lol

We had quite a few waves on Monday from all sorts, including some smiles from the dark side!!!
I love owning one of these very special vans and i wouldn't swop it for a £50000 motor home even if i won the lottery :D :D

It really is just much more fun in a Commer

Very childish and sad of them to give the thumbs down, probably jealous deep down [8D]

Cazz... student commerade!!!!

I second you on that mate - My sister has a Vee Dub and loves my van. I cannot wait to go to BugJam this year. She goes every year to both ( Big bang ) don't want to put an issue where there neednt' be one. It was just one random case was all. Went to VFest last year and sat in the middle of 2 Vee Dubs and we kept in touch and are meeting at BugJam. As i said, i love the Vee Dub, infact i had one in my watch list on e-bay recently ( Not that i had the money to buy it ) it was all silver - Silver everywhere with halogen rooflights and all sorts. I can't explain it really, but it was the best van i have ever seen that had been modernised. And it was up as a buy it now for something like 6k....Very cheap for a VW, needless to say that it was snapped up within hours.

My darkside companions can't wait for me to get a Commer and are keeping an eye out for me for anything that turns up. There is a bit of snobbery with some elements of the VW scene, but a lot of people do like to look at something else other than the endless sea of Splits and Bays.

allways miles of smiles how ever I was recently harrassed by youths of today in a local fuel station haven't got a clue what it was all about there where more of them than there was of me [V]was unpleasant fortunatly the Riley backfired in a big way :D[}:)]:DI think they thought they had been shot at & they retreated [^]would like to go to some vw shows as they have always appealed, but they are quite small inside I do like the extra space I get with sybhil,& much more affordable imo
you want snobbery,my riley has mg engine the parts people have a bit of a problem with year & model :D[}:)]:D

Sybhil & no1

It's not just van snobbery i know. When i had my Triumph Herald Convertible i'd get funny looks from Stag owners. And i guess Stag owners get looks from TR6 owners. Just the way it is. However, i never feel like i'm driving a poor mans VW. Quiet the opposite actually;-)
Really looking forward to BugJam though.
