1974-Commer-Camper-Van ebay

It may well be a ploy mate but at the end of the day, if they are willing to end the auction at £750 cash then i'd certainly be interested had i not already had a van. Let's face it, whatever may be wrong with it is allways fixable;-) everybody's help offered on here you could get that van looking a beaut. Look at what can be achieved with very little cost, particularly Adam and Ange's Percy. Nice paint job and for a fraction of the cost of a prof job. Martin's got the parts, Woolfy has the panels etc etc. You also have to be aware of the fact that the owner could well be viewing these posts;-0

And lastly, for £750 you would get probably a lift in a Vee Dub let alone owning it HAHAHAHA!!!

The van has been sold!!!

I phoned the seller at about 4.30 yesterday and he was busy so we agreed to talk later about my offer. I had no call so by 8.30 I phoned again, got a better description of the van and told it was still available but I also noticed that by then it was removed from ebay.
I asked how to proceed and then I made an offer (a good one), but was then told that there was other interest and to not be disapointed if I didn't get it. I almost felt that I was beng played off against someone.
I have since recieved an email this morning saying
"Ever so sorry, someone had already offered a deposit straight away, and it's gone throughh or else we'd have taken the offer for sure."

I feel pretty let down about the whole thing, so its now back to scouring the internet and classic magazines.

Vans which sell on ebay, especially those which need a little work never seem to get to the end of there listing. It really is a shame for you.

I must admit that we made an offer on the van we brought and put down a deposit straight away in order for the guy to stop an ebay listing last year. However it was not past its reserve at the time, nor would it of made it (£4000!?)

Sadly, i think you have to be really selfish - see a van you like, hopefully view it and do a deal asap. If the owner says that he'll let the listing run, then all you can do is wait for it to end, but at least you will of tried. You will step on someone elses toes, no doubt about it - but the same has happened to you, and it will do again without someone having second thoughts as to who else may be interested, or someone who may be considerate enough to actually believe that a 5 day listing IS a 5 day listing.

Anything i have ever sold on ebay has reached more than i have been offered up front. I've never ended an item early - more fool him!

We did exactly the same as Fontaine with ours. Saw it on carandclassic website then checked Fleabay to see if it was there which it was. Had only been up a few hours and had serious interest but hadn't met it's reserve. Made contact straight away as we knew what he wanted to sell it for as it was listed on carandclassic. Offered him the full asking price with a £500 deposit through Paypal and with a little painstaking 30 mins the deal was done and it was taken down from the bay. The whole deal was done from start to finish in about 1 hour. Bloody hell we wernt even looking for a van at that point as we both had classic cars. But it had our names all over it. So yeah, i think you just have to see it and jump on it straight away. We didn't have a clue about anything of the van's flaws or problems but just crossed our fingers that we haven't been ripped off. Luckily we were the new proud owners of a lovely wagon;-) hope you find one soon mate.

DUKE!

I hate it when eBay auctions end early, especially when they've run for some time and have made reserve, but as Fontaine says, you need to be selfish and may the best man win!

The trouble is that I talked to the seller earlier that day and he told me there had been an offer. He was supposed to phone me back but didn't, so when I phoned his father (who owned it) I made a higher offer. He didn't say it was already sold although clearly it was.

They didn't wait for my offer but it seems that the van was sold for less than my offer so I don't feel too bad now. I just think that if you have a couple of people who are making comitted offers you should hear them out.

Anyway, I must admit that upon talking to the owner I was unsure of some of the work carried out, ie the flutes down the side had been filled to make it look better??

We would just love to find a good van, with good interior, test and generally tidy outside. We were hoping to get one before our fist show, which is the second week of July. There's still time, but we've been looking since just after christmas and haven't really got close to getting one yet.

As my wife said, if its not meant to be its not meant to be. The right van will come along sooner or later.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck but my advice is don't be tempted to rush and risk getting the wrong van.

Depending on where you're based, if you're really desparate for a trip away in the summer why not try renting from Martin Maltas ? It might even save you money in the long term by allowing you the time to buy the right van. This would also give you an idea what to expect from a decent van too !

I think you're right, theres no point rushing into things. We will just keep an eye out and if something comes along we'll take a look.

How about this :)

Tax free too and with overdrive [8D]

Interior and front seats look like modern replacements which are perhaps no bad thing, front bumper from a later Dodge also shows a lot of love to keep it in this condition.

Now where's the catch ???

Arbroath [V] can't exactly nip round the corner to have a look.
