unfortunatly tim im not now mainly because i havent got a clue as to how i would change everything over to the set up you mentioned. and without doing something to it i cant move the van around on the drive. so im going to just lower it a little by removing a few rear springs and changeing the lenght of the coils on the front at a later date. i just want to get it mobile asap so i dont miss out on the fun this summer. im going to save all the slamed look and big wheels ect for the panel van, haha.[}:)];):p

thats ok woolfy, we can save the idea for the panel van, much cooler [8D]

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off no.3"

yes i agree, the panel van will be the chosen one. much cooler. but the camper will look nice also. with its clear purspex night vision roof ect.:p

Mona - cle but without the big old astromomer. You can watch the stars without Patric waffling on about the Crab Nebular - just you, a beer and the stars - Mona cool [8D]

Hi Woolfy,

i now have 7 of these and all require rust repairs, so i am very interested in this thread.

I would appreciate if you can elaborate on how you weld in those patch pannels,
- what kind of welder,
- what Welder settings.
- What weld wire thickness
- Stage of protection applied (rust preventer, undercoat, top...etc)
the more details the better.

Many years ago i changed a rear quarter pannel on a valiant charger with an oxy set, still good 20 years later. but it warped everything in sight.

since then i go a MIG welder, just 240v single phase. Works great on thick metal like chassis rails, but i find it impossible to weld pannels.

Thanks.

Klix the highwayman was previously owned by Patrick Moores' carer, came from just down the road from him in Selsey Bill. Think he'd enjoy Commer ownership, it's a great way to be out stargazing - have seen some wonderful things:)

good luck phantomrose - welding advice always good for commer ownership;)

well i finally got the drivers door off the van today, god that was hard work. i struggled like mad for about two hours trying to undo the philips style bolts that hold it on. i started to loose my temper a bit at times because they were jammed solid, with age and of course twenty layers of paint. i chipped away at the paint ,i sprayed wd 40 all over it and it still wouldnt budge.then just as i was going to give up the guost i had a sudden brain wave. i remembered i had a blow torch in my van so i heated up the bolts and sure enough they came out within miniutes. now why didnt i think of that straight away, instead of struggling like mad for two hours. i felt a right deeer brain afterwards. i will post some pics later .;)

thats good to know. I'm going to be sorting Jessica's doors soon. Did you have someone there to catch the doors when you took the last screw out??!

I ended up drilling a couple out [V] One of the jobs to do - re-tap threads.

anyone know what the size and thread of the screws are? I'd like to get some in before I take the doors off. Stainless would probably be best wouldn't it?

Suck great inspiration work Woolfy.....

Later in the year i am hoping to get a country block and get all the 8 Vans in one place.

Then an Australian Commer Van club would be in order.

great going woolfy, keep up the excellent work:)

think if any more vans turn up Phantomrose you'll be getting a few emigrating members from the u.k. for the Australian Commer Fan Club;)

The bolts holding my doors on have straight slots, luckily managed to get them started with an impact driver on the drivers door, hope the passenger door screws come out just as well;)
