So a starter for 10, which way does the water flow on the 1725 standard engine? I'm currently plumbing back in my heater using an array of copper piping and new heater hose. The only problem is I can't be definite which way round to put the pipes. I have one coming of the water pump and one out of the head/inlet area. I started jimmy up with neither hose on and water came out of the inlet connector so I've assumed that's the feed and the pump area is the return. The heater works great but drops it's heat on tick over (this is the case with the pipes the other way round also). I would love to know how everybody else's is plumbed in and how good it is. :)
 
The feed to the heater usually comes off the connection on the top of the head, the return comes back to the pump suction. The heaters aren't brilliant but they do give a bit of warmth albeit a bit noisily with the fan on.
 
Thanks panky that means I've got it right. And yes ear muffs were deployed during the full heat Road test:)
 
The flow pipe must go to the BOTTOM of the heater matrix, and the return must be from the TOP, or air won't bleed out.

All this assumes that the heater matrix is fitted the right way up inside the steel box, cos it won't work properly upside down. If all matrixes (matrices?) are the same as mine then the flow pipe at the bottom has three ridges and the return at the top has two. Because the flow is in at the bottom it can get full of sediment, so a good flush out may be required.

Unlike Panky, I have found these heaters to be very effective (I have one in my truck as well) :rolleyes:.
 
Cheers Colin I will check out the 2/3 ridge theory and will report back. As for the heater functionality whilst driving its really good it just seems to drop off at tick over. From what I can remember when I originally tried the heater to see if it worked it seemed to blow hot constantly (until it blew the hoses apart).
I've also thoroughly flushed the whole system until it was crystal clear.
 
That's why mine don't work very well, the heater gets hot enough but the 'ram air' inlet on Harvey is welded up and Bonnie's flap flops around making a clanking noise so I've jammed it closed:rolleyes: The fan tries it's best but cant push out as much air.
 
Bloody awful:( It started doing it on the motorway doing about 50 - clang, clang, clang, clang - eased off and it stopped. At first I thought it was coming from the wheel or suspension but finally tracked it down to the floppy flap. The operating rod has come adrift inside the heater - one day I'll sort it out.
 
It gets warm enough you just need to go faster to drown out the noise of the fan;)

I couldn't see any ridges on mine at all but it works really well so it must be right :)
 
The ridges will probably all be covered by the rubber hoses, and/or clips. You can see from this pic where to look for them.

I'm sure mine didn't look like that but the only way to find out for sure would be to strip it all down again. Like I say as it works brilliantly and it's all sorted for antifreeze I'll assume it's all hunky dorey
