Peggy drinks too much!
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

The side windows look like they are from a Wanderer (but shortened on the nearside removing the frosted panel) and the interior looks a little familiar as well.

Hi all - it IS a CIM Wanderer (Caravans International Motorized)....with an aftermarket replacement roof-cap for the lift-up Parkstone roof. The other givaway is the original layout of the furniture...and the cupboard door handles....typical CIM.

Sorry - allow me to introduce myself: Carl's the name and classic motorhomes are my passion!!!

Currently restoring a CIM Bedouin (Bedford CF...sorry), but am on the lookout for an un-molested (interiorwise) Wanderer, Highwayman and Autohome to add to the collection.

I have a deep affection for the CIM motorhomes of the early '70's - the ultimate aim is to gather together an example of each of the Bedford, Commer and Ford variants that they built at that time (Bedouin, Brigand, Wanderer, Highwayman, Landliner, Wayfarer and Autohome - the last available on all 3 chassis...).

Great forum......look forward to taking part...

I have a Ci Trailblazer, but that may not have been available on a Bedford chassis [?] As well as a Highwatman etc. etc. etc :I

Don't know about the Bedford, but they definitely made the Trailblazer using the Transit as a base. My sister had one.

Yep - it was also available on the Bedford....from 1976/77 if memory serves.....maybe a little later but not much. It was the model that replaced the Wanderer/Brigand/Wayfarer panel van conversions....

The interior layout on this one, looks the same as the Trailblazer.
I know someone who has just viewed it and the front doors are shot :I

If it wasn't for that god-awful roof, I might have been tempted....
Original, but tired, interior units.....a litte rust doesn't bother me....
But I doubt I could get hold of a Parkstone roof to replace that upturned bathtub!!!

carl, i've come into this convo half way through, but was the Parkstone roof built at the Bluebird factory in Poole? the factory is/was in Parkstone, poole ...which is where I live...?

Hi Enigma, the Parkstone roof (as fitted to the Wanderer, Brigand and Wayfarer) was designed and made by Bluebird (which became CIM) at their factory at 500 Ringwood Road, Parkstone.

When they stopped building the 'triplets' and changed to the Trailblazer (around the mid 70's) the roof design changed to a more box-like structure - and they called it the 'Trailblazer Elevating Roof' (original!!!).

CIM became CI Autohomes, which became just Autohomes by the 80's...and then in the early 90's they went bust.

A small enterprise called Herald tried to make a go of it - but it didnt last unfortunately...

The factory buildings were let out to small buisnesses by the site owners...and late last year were all torn down ready for redevelopment. I passed by only last week on my way to Holes Bay - it was a shame to see. The office is still standing, but thats all.

I used to live in Canford Heath and used to go to the factory open days when they had them....live in Gillingham, Dorset now...

the office being the blue building near the fence/road...i pass it a couple of times a week ...theres a camping business not too far from there...I took smurf there and he told me that up until a few years ago he had the mould still for my high top...he was a wealth of knowledge..he over loaded me with too much in one go and I forgot most of it hahaha1 He knew exactly what conversion my van is...something nobody else has been able to do! ..

If thats your waggon in in your profile picture...then pamper it and treat it with care...that is a very early MKI Autohome - one of the first (on a K plate).

I envy you...a beautiful van!!!

The place you went to nearby - Charles & Son? - the owner used to build them!!!!!
