Well, serves me right for being a lazy bar.....'d !!
Tigger was blowing a tiny bit from exhaust flange to manifold and with the new SU fitted it is very limited to work from the top and I didn't fancy putting him up on ramps and taking the stater motor off to access the bolts....so...off I went to a ''local'' tyre and exhaust centre
''Excuse me, could you just slacken my bolts and re-align the exhaust and tighten up again?''
''Yes Sir that will possibly cost 1/2 an hour labour''
''thats fine '' I said
half an hour later, I was summoned ...'' I have done the best I can, but it is still blowing a little, what you really need to do is leave the van with us for a couple of hours at least so we can take the starter off to see things clearly and at £65 per hour it's not cheap''
bugger that..
''No thanks, but thanks for trying, I brought it here to try and save myself some grief and time...what do I owe you?''
''Oh no Sir, no charge unless you decide to bring it back''
what a nice man I thought (nice but incompetent I thought)
Got home, decided it was far easier to remove the carb and work from above...I took the carb off to gain some room and undid the 2 bolts securing the flange, aligned it up again and slowly and evenly tightened the 2 bolts......
A problem!! ...one of the nuts started slipping......off came the manifolds to discover that Mr 'nice' "competent' had stripped the thread on one of the studs!!!!! GRRRR!
Not too bad as I had a spare manifold, so swapped the stud.....refitted the manifold and aligned the exhaust and started to tighten the nuts...'BOL......s!!! still slipping???
Off with the manifold again to discover that not only was the thread on the stud stripped but also stripped is the hole in the manifold where the stud goes!!!!! FOR FUdge sake!!
'Right I'm going to take it back and go ape!!' ...hmm, trouble is I would have to prove it! ...now I'm thinking instead of Mr Nice for trying to help, I'm thinking, no wonder he didn't charge me and couldn't wait to get rid of me[

Bloody lucky for me that my spare exhaust manifold has also been 'adapted'/welded up' by Tim......
In-between school runs and stuff, thats as far as I got...not a happy bunny today
