Tigger's Bouncing!!!!

The best I can tell that hose that was on the manifold goes round the front of the engine bay and goes into the little 'tunnel' in the cab towards the heater?? ....

Can't get in the cab to investigate further at the mo, due to all my tools etc..
Got the very fiddly throttle linkage fitted and got the carb on, but then had to remove it again as the filter wont go on.....a few whacks to the body with a big hammer should suffice ...when the blooming rain stops for 5 minutes....unbelievable after our mini heatwave in Wales:)

Have a look under the front of the van, it will be a remote servo if there's one fitted an could be mounted in front of the radiator or somewhere close.

I'm sorry to sound thick John, but whats that? what does it look like and what does it do?

You have to remember, I might be able to swap gearboxes in a flash and clutches lol ..but really I haven't a clue unless I have done it before:D:I:D

Brake servo looks a bit like this

brake%20servo.jpg

and basically uses manifold vacuum to increase the hydraulic pressure in the brake lines :)

Ok thanks Tim......so, if I discover a servo and need to refit the pipe to the manifold, the whole in this new manifold is wrong size...can I just get a new connector? or do I need to remove the manifold and get it drilled and tapped to accept my original connector?

If it is needed then you will need to drill and tap the hole. It looks like 1/4 BSP. If it comes to it and you're stuck i will lend you the drill and tap ;)

Thanks[8D] .....erm? was you thinking of popping down for the day then?:D:D ....(which you would be most welcome) but probably cheaper and easier if I just whip the manifold off and take it somewhere local;)

Well, I found Tigger defo has a servo..it's tucked away just behind the front grille, which is why I couldn't see it from under the van or from the engine bay:)
So, the manifold is now being drilled and tapped, should get it back later today.:)

Servo won't increase your braking power Colin, just the effort required at the pedal. Pedal may feel softer as well but performance should be fine.

I am not a person, I am a number, 395 actually......Be seeing you!
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Got the manifold back and the missing choke fitment arrived today so I guess I have no excuse to not get cracking tomorrow;)
Plenty of panel beating going on today hopefully enough to squeeze the air filter on:)
Treated Tigger to a pair of eyebrows as well today....

quick question on brakes while you are discussing them - during todays MOT during the brake test I was hitting 450 on the gauge front and back - similar with the handbrake, is that a good score - matey seemed impressed

I couldn't possibly say Lee:I ...if they passed and he was impressed, I shouldn't worry about it:)

I don't know what score mine had, Lee, but the tester said they were as good as most modern vehicles and he was mighty impressed. I think those big drums work well when set up properly.(and used regularly):p;)

back to my "rootes"

The weather was kind today[8D]

Tim, note you can see the gravel drive between the filter and wheel arch:D and note the throttle cable run goes under the carb then back over the top
DSC01042_zpsb8aa54fb.jpg

here you can see how I 'fettled' to set the choke cable up

DSC01043_zps5a1d31a9.jpg

Started ok and went for a test drive, went a few miles and loads more power:D but sadly it didn't last long:( The throttle was sticking, I ended up with the bonnet up and drove a couple of miles home operating the throttle cable by hand......amusing:D:D
I let him cool down and took a look.....that lovely new longer cable you gave me Tim...it's now about 15'' shorter and re-routed
DSC01045_zpsf3c4def7.jpg

Much better cable run, but was still feeling very 'sticky'.....it seems to be very judder through the 'adjuster' (is the what you call it?)

Anyways, managed to bent the mounting bracket a tad to create a straighter run and applied plenty of grease and it feels much better.
I'm hoping nobody is going to shout at me and say the wheel arch is structural because I got the grinder out and made 2 horizontal cuts, above and below the air filter, allowing me to push the middle section out to make some room and also allow a little cool air in:D

Well done Colin, i'm impressed [^] looks like it all came together pretty well. Are you getting full throttle, have you checked ?.
Make sure all the pivots in the system are free and lubed up with nothing binding. You don't need to worry about cuts in the arch, other than watch for water getting to the filter in the rain ;)
I think from now on i will make the manifold flange a bit shorter to allow more room for filters :)

Thank you Tim[8D]

Yes getting full throttle, I wasn't until I re-routed the cable. The filter was still very tight even with the mod to the arch. I had to mount the back plate to the carb 1st then put the filter and front plate on after....Still need another test run, but can't see any problems arising now.
Phew about the wheel arch, the front arches are the last bit due for a rub down and a coat of paint, so I will tidy them up then. ....;)

Thank you kind Sir;)

Haven't been able to get another test run yet as been out all day and we off to Legoland tomorrow, last day before the kids go back to school;)
