Theres life in the old dog yet

bugger - hazards need to be operated by one switch - not a combination

I also have a blown bulb on one of the little indicator repeaters on the dash - the bulbs have little "ears" - are these easily available?

It sounds like a loose connection, probably where the hazards are spliced into the indicator loom. Just take the bulb to Halfords or which ever motor factors is nearest.

May be the hazard switch, try taking the plug on and off to clean the terminals. My mot man has me sit inside to do the lights, if yours does that you're sorted ;)

Using the hazard switch in Peggy rendered all the indicators useless. I had to pull the plug off the backl of the hazard switch, then push it back on and the indicators would work perfectly again. Just stopped using the hazard switch. Does the dog require hazards for the MoT test Lee? If not just remove the switch or hide it temporarily behind the dash?

If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Baz is right Lee, ...a vehicle not first used before April 1st 1986 does not require hazard lights, however if they are fitted they must be working....so, like he said ...hide the switch;)

i think my link mirrors Enigma's - so i think i will just hide the switch for the MOT and plead ignorance to it ever having one.

unfortunately not (or so i was lead to believe) - no emissions test up to 1975 - I am 1976 so I think I have a very basic "are there billowing clouds of black smoke" type test with a very lax co levels

I removed the hazard light switch
I bought new shiny green indicator warning lamps - nice LED ones which are now fitted and much brighter than the old ones.
I tested the washer and found it only gave the odd spit. I found the filter in the washer bottle full of sludge so cleaned that - now the jet hits the peak and drops back onto the windscreen - no wonder the peaks always rust!
just awaiting the trim so I can put the engine covers back on properly
Ran the engine at idle with the covers on tonight for 2hrs - no overheating, that exhaust wrap has really done the trick - its a little smoky for the first 10 minutes, however I am working on the basis that the engine is still running in after the overhaul.

took the dog for a few blats up and down the track / bridleway to my house - got very hot very quickly, does not look promising

perfect at idle and revving out of gear - but the moment the engine has to do any real work the heat issue rears its ugly head

it was approaching red and the fan was on - dont think i got above 20mph. I was doing 200m runs up and down the track which is on a slope. Turning round at each end and going back the other way. It was initially very smokey under load but that cleared after a bit

Very odd, everything is new[B)] Have you got a digital thermometer you can point at the engine [?] It would be interesting to see the actual temp.
