The Green Bean 1

I can see that would be a problem, fitting the Nissan front axle under the Commer body. Would there be any chance of keeping the original front end [?] difficult I know, but this is ground breaking stuff.

Hi,
The Nissan and Commer are very close to being identical layout and suprisingly close dimensionally.
The nissan rear axle is slightly narrower than the Commer.
The nissan front suspension is very slightly wider.
The slightly wider front wheels will also help reduce the narrow track look to some degree.
I do not want to use the standard Commer front suspension. I think they were on drugs when they designed that. The rest of the van is fairly sensible but it all went horribly wrong under the front.

Not sure if it was designed or the Humber crossmember was near enough.
Another thought, if you modify the wheels will offsetting them inwards, so to speak, interfere with steering/brakes. If not then you could get the wider wheels without increased track.

Hi Rob, glad to see you havn't fallen by the wayside. I was glad to finally get a workshop big enought to fit the detector van. Not that its moving very quickly[:(!]

The nissan front track is only marginally wider. On full lock my white van has about 2" of space between the tyre and the metalwork beneath the door. This is with the wheel pushed up inside the arch.
With the slightly wider Nissan track and also adding, say an inch, to the wheels then I will just about be touching on full lock. The Nissan has an adjustable steering lock stop which is handy so I will set this so it just clears.
I need to revisit this as I have long forgotten the exact measurements.

Hi Folks,
It is still underway.
New fuel injectors turned up yesterday so I nearly have all the Volvo bits for the engine conversion.
I am not going to go to bonkers. I have decided on a spec for the engine and what my financial limits are. I am going for a very easy 220hp. That should be enough :D. Above that starts requiring more expensive parts so that caps what I will do to the engine.

Hi All,

I have some sad news.
The farm where I have my stuff stored wants more space for tractors and things so I need to move them from there.
I have made the choice to sell the two vans / nissan chassis / nissan engine etc. I have two small kids and no time now too.
I sourced quite a few of the panels needed for rebuilding my white one so those should be sold with that van and idealy the whole lot would go as a project for someone with some space.
I am holding off putting them on ebay.

There is:
White 1972 PB. Duff engine / no diff / very solid underneath and fairly good elsewhere. Seats in the front but nothing in the back.
Panels to repair the bad bits: windscreen surround / main front panel / one door step / rear numberplate panel / rear top corner and lights area panels left and right.

Rough Green van.
Body only suitable as a donor for other vans. The section of the body at the rear of the rear right window was to be kept to shorten the windows on the white van as the autosleeper right hand window is shorter.
ok Autosleeper interior and pop up roof.
Gearbox but no engine.
Dash removed and wiring no good.
I was keeping this for the autosleeper conversion to transfer to the white one.

Nissan cabstar rolling chassis with running engine / gearbox / axle /brakes / fuel tank / radiator / etc.

The vans are ok up the farm until the new year but they will need to go at some point.
I might be able to make more money by selling the panels and splitting it all up but I don't realy want to do that. If anyone wants a combination of some or all of these parts then please call me.
