Definately, trace the fuel system through any sign of damage, splits or the like and get it replaced.

I had a Singer Gazelle a few years back and the chap sold it to me very cheap cause he just couldn't get it going at all and he'd had enough. I got it back and after checking over the petrol pump I traced the fuel pipes back and sure enough about a foot from the fuel tank the pipe had a small split. Replaced the section and had the car running within an hour.

kjh;)

Check the fuel filler hose that goes into the tank. They perish and all your expensive fuel just drips out [V] Other than that, worn carb or incorrect float level, are things to check ;)

blockages in pipes & carb "snakeskin" from tank [xx(]
did you enjoy the chocolate :p works every time for me :D[}:)]:D

ooooh yes i did indeed. :p
Ive been to see where she need her big metal elastoplast lol Now, didnt really understand what they were saying but they were talking about taking off her petrol tank, and redoing/doing the boxes? or something to do with the os spring. And they need to fix her valance because thats had it so they cant weld onto it.

(is this making any sense??)

but Nicks work mate is the MOT-er so he's going to look at it to see what needs to be welded for the mot, then Nicks going to do a welding evening class so we can keep up with it all in the future.

So all i have to do it wait. The chap thats looked at the welding said to us he could have sold it 3 times today lol they really like it! But i LOVE HER hahahaha :p:D:I

Chances are, that there is rot at the rear of the spring hangers [xx(]
The chassis meets the inner rear corner and joins up with the rear door pillars, just behind the lower rear corners. This is an mot fail, due to the proximity of the suspension mount.
You have to drop the petrol tank to get into the o/s one (not a good idea welding near the tank anyway [B)]

Are you sure you actually ran out of petrol - there maybe fuel in the tank but the pipe is blocked, unfortunately a common problem due to the 'snakeskin' already mentioned - it's bits of paint peeling off the inside of the tank and getting sucked into the fuel line. You should expect to get about 25 mpg to get only 4 you would virtually have to pour petrol down the carb as you were driving along [:0] Definitely not normal - there will be a simple explanation.

7 mpg - that's pretty bad -

Are you leaving the choke on? - that knob behind your left knee - mechanism could stick - the spark plugs would eventually soot up and it would stop (probably after 10 miles...)
Are the brakes binding on? - the hubs would be getting hot.
Does the engine oil smell of petrol? - fuel pump leaking into engine.

You should be able to get 25mpg on a run (eg on a motorway) but around town and on short trips this will be much less - 15mpg?

something is badly wrong if thats all you are getting [xx(]
mods to improve economy are fit a rc40 free flowing exhaust and a k&n air filter and electronic ignition and have the head skimmed, all of these will improve power as well :)

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

It is something we need to look at. When she gets back from her Elastoplasting. We need to get her on the ramp and have a good mighty scout, luckily, nick can do all the mechanics for free. We have K & N's on our cars so getting one for the van is a must. I'll look into the exhaust and i'll tell nick about the other stuff.

Even if we can't get it all done straight away, she's not going anywhere. (unless one of you's lots steal her in the night. God i hope shes safe in that welding place :S)

any ideas just keep throwing them at me, cus we'll cheak them all. Replace all the hoses is a must too :p

Keep it up Kelsey - it will be worth it (that's what I keep telling myself):)

have a look in the back of the garage Panky's thread at what he found on ebay ;)
just get to mot stage enjoy for the season then in winter try to do a little at a time as & when ENJOY [8D]
what cars do you have [?]

Sybhil & no1

Ive got a Clio and Nicks got a Toyota Corolla, but they are only the normal filter jobbies we have.
i think it will be worth it in the end, but you do have to have a passion for commers to put the time and effort in, which we do haha

ask the seller what size headlight they fit ?
they look really good if they are stainless what a bargain...
just knocked on neighbours door to ask (darksiders)but they were out had a peek at his head lights they don't look the same they look bigger by approx 1" they were flat too so not even sure if they are original.

Sybhil & no1

Have asked. If he gets back with a measurement i will have to ask you how big our headlights should be, cus Clova is at the welding garage ;):(

The NEW Girlfriend in a Commer

I am 99% sure they are 7" some one will confirm ? (if they are the right size, & they measure over the curve of glass they will probably say 7.5")

Sybhil & no1

Mini ones will fit for sure. Check out the Mini sites if you are not sure [^]
