sybhils still ill

Tim

I have tended to find intermittent problems to be ignition not fuel in the past.

I know everything points to fuel, but so many times I have spent an hour fannying around with fuel over and over again to find its the primary circuit - a few years ago I finally learned my lesson and now I change the ignition service items first.

HT leads (especially ebay rubbish chinese ones) breaking down when hot and coils stuttering under load.

But the main culprit for intermittant problems is the condenser. They're so cheap these days (£2) its worth sticking a new one in for peace of mind. I wish they were 5x the price and twice the quality.

As you know, with the misfiring the plugs will be fouled up by now exasperating the miss, so dont forget to wire brush them

Cheers
Jules

Just another light on the subject is your fuel cap the one that is flush with the rear corner pannel or is the one with like a tube sticking out and cap on the end of it because ive had a problem with rain water filling the petrol tank up and mixing with the fuel.It did the same as your van is doin drive for a bit cut out crank over but would not fire up,leave it for a bit then start. When it cuts out try spraying some carb cleaner down the venture on the carb and see if it starts if it does then this is your answer;).The rain gutter on the rear corner at the top runs off down the corner then cacades round the fuel cap and on to the floor. The early vans had a sticking out fuel cap and the later ones had a flush fitting cap? Sticking out one is the best to have!!:D:D;);)

Bessies' got an outie but petrol cap is from first van and slightly loose so have had some concerns about rain in tank.

thanks guys :) i have chased up blind alleys zillions of times before [}:)] so why stop now :D will try to get a look at her again tomorrow, i will try a coil change,it starts too easily to be the condenser. its an outie jon ,no sign of water in the fuel.
by the way jules, wire brushing plugs is not recommended as it impregnates the porcelain insulator with metallic particles, you get shot if you do it to aircraft [:0]
meanwhile i would like to raise the subject of polynomial functions for pressure wave reflection.............:D

sounds like an interesting day[:0][V] will be rooting for you and hoping you get Sybhil back to health - best of luck:)

my feminine intuition tells me you are about to say that you have sorted Sybhil by checking coil and replacing carb - either that or your clock still on summer time and my reply shows first;)

yipeee!!!!!!!! great news:)

sorted:) after much ado,3 coil swaps 2 dizzy caps, rotor arms, points, running it on 3 cylinders with a plug sparking and watching, the only electrical fault i could find was the coil wired back to front,so losing 40% of its energy, but still no luck [xx(] so i finally went back to fueling and changed the carb for a n.o.s one we have (fixed the hole with titanium putty john) and hey presto she runs a treat now ,just been on a 20 mile run with no problems, so it was a fault in the carb somewhere ;)
