Suspension Question

Resetting the coils would be my preference over adding spacers under the springs. I was quoted $NZ80 (not $90 as I said) to have the pair of front coils reset, and $220 to have the pair of leaves reset. $300 all up which is about £150 in your money, sounds pretty good to me.

Hubbell, have you got some pics of your van? I had a wee look but couldn't find much.
 
Its one of the jobs on next years list... I want the front down by a couple of inches and the back down by an inch or so. Can't go too low at the back due to the towbar. Could just take 2 of the 3 thick leaves out.

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.
 
I couldn't find any companies that re-set springs in the UK. From the research I've carried out some people seem to think that the heating up and the compression of the metal can cause the steel to weaken and dramatically reduce the lifetime of the springs. Whether or not that is correct though I have no idea so once you've had the work carried out it would be interesting to hear back about your experience. I did find this company that manufactures springs to order but I have absolutely no idea as to how much they would cost...

Might be an idea to do the spring drop as Tim has described, cheap and simple - you'll be a pioneer doing it first on a Commer;)
That site list Humber in there list of spring replacements, if they do one for a Supersnipe I'm pretty sure it's the same as a Commer as it's got the same front suspension set up - can anyone confirm?

Coilsprings are great and down the road from me. You'd be surprised at the price. I got a full set a few years back for my 77 Celica slightly lowered and 25% stiffer, he did all the compression testing on the old ones etc. as he didn't have the original figures (he's got draws full of old cards for 1000's of old car springs). Anyway the cost was £160 for all 4!!!

Also me and martin have had a new pioneering way of making a lowering system that hasnt yet been mentioned... keep your eyes out

Don't just enter this thread with "pioneering" new methods and then not divulge the details, are you waiting for the pattern to be approved?
 
On a serious note, I've not yet even looked at the springs on my van to see whether or not they've been cut, but if they have i'll let you know. Thanks for the offer that's very generous.
